Hard to Have Stakes with No Investment
One of the things that drives a good narrative is tension. You are shown characters, you get emotionally invested in them, and they are put in danger. This creates tension and generally makes a story more enjoyable. For all its action, gore, duplicity, and mystique, Juni Taisen has no tension. none. zero. The show never gives the audience a lasting character to root for. Every time we get some ...

An anime with an interesting concept executed in a way that undermines itself completely.
Juni Taisen should be a good anime, but why is it not? Because it's predictable to an astounding fault in as little as 3 episodes. You begin to suspect it by the second. By the third episode your suspicions are confirmed. You can identify which character is going to die by simply asking three questions in the following order.

1: Did the anime focus on a particular character more than the ...

Looks can be deceiving - Juni Taisen is a dialogue
while Juni Taisen appears to be another action show because of its setting in a 12 warrior battle royal, it is actually a deeply philosophical show with its most interesting parts found in the conversations between the partaking warriors. discussions of good and evil are plenty, yet the good characters hardly have the upper hand. everything is presented as a gray area and even the most noble ...

    Has potential but...
Doesn't allow us to like any of the characters because they literally kill them right after telling us about them. We also know little about the setting. If this was 24 episodes and the characters had more personality, it could've been a great anime.

Warrior of the review: Killing anti-climatically
Coming from the guy who wrote the Monogatari series you'd expect top notch writing from this at the very least, but even the episodes that are written well and aren't just straight up boring can't truly save this show. Don't get me wrong, this show is by no means terrible; however, that doesn't mean that it's actually good. Everything about this show is just... average. Animation, writing, ...

    Lengthy backstories - the anime
End of the season summary: while the last few episodes of the series had some intriguing qualities (especially the Ox/Tiger interactions), the general impression stays: it was poorly paced, predictable and fundamentally unsatisfying. I watched it out of curiosity and can only recommend approaching it for the same reason - it's atypical and in certain aspects quite unique, but rarely in a ...

Diet Coke Fate which suffers from "Flashback EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME" syndrome
Juni Taisen is a "Battle Royale" styled show with acceptable animation which decides to commit the grave sin of breaking its own rules and then drowning the viewer in non-stop flashbacks which devour the vast majority of every episode.

The comparisons to any given entry in the Fate Stay Night series are probably the best way to communicate what this show is (or rather, fails to be). Like Fate, ...

Lots of potential. All of it absolutely wasted.
The premise of this show is inviting, but it all dies after the first episode. Going forward this show is all downhill at full speed.

    ******Spoilers*******

This show trolls the viewer in the sense that it promises a battle royale of epic proportions just to end up being a semi-psychological drama with no zodiac combat at all and with the characters dying like silly scientists in a cheap ...

Don't watch, waste of anime - Juni Taisen is that bad.
My issue with this anime is not what most took issue with: building up a cool backstory and character and killing them after their flashback backstory. I understood the structure of the episodes, and while its lazy, I'm okay with it. What I hated is the pitiful excuse to wrap-up a good idea into a dreadfully horrible ending with "normal high school boy that just wants a girl friend", and leaving ...

It has potential to say the least
    ...but it went downhill.

    MAY CONTAIN SPOILER

This anime might have the worst plot progression that I have ever seen. I mean you can see it pretty obviously:

It might be done intentionally by the producer, but ...
