About Kurokami The Animation
Kurokami The Animation is based on the manga by the same name from Korean creative team consisting of writer Young Lim Dall and artist Park Sung Woo (the manga has been released in the U.S. by Yen Press under the title Black God), and original publisher Square Enix. The anime is directed by Tsuneo Kobayashi (director of The Twelve Kingdoms) with series story composition by Reiko Yoshida, and character designs and animation direction by Hiroyuki Nishimura (Fatal Fury, Full Metal Alchemist the movies).

This is a world in which fortune, misfortune, and even lives are controlled by “luck”…
Each person has been split into three duplicates identities. Each of these three duplicates divide an energy-like force called “Terra”. This energy can be attributed to the amount of “Luck” or “Life Energy” that an individual possesses. Amongst the three, the one with the largest share of Terra is called the “Root” and the two possessing a lesser amount are called “Subs”.
If a Sub should ever meet up with its Root, it would cause a disaster, one that would take the life of that Sub. When a Sub dies, its Terra is evenly distributed into the remaining doppelgangers. However, if two Subs should meet, they would both suddenly perish, leaving the entire amount of Terra to be absorbed by the Root. If this should happen, the single remaining individual would then become what is called a “Master Root” and possess an enormous amount of luck, thereafter leading an unusually successful, happy life.
This is the way the world is governed and has been termed the “Doppeliner System”. However there are superhuman beings that work to maintain the balance of the system creating the “Coexistence Equilibrium”. They reside in a hidden world, a “Pure Place”, peacefully in tribes. They are called the “Terra Guardians”.
The hidden truth behind the fate of humans is a far too cruel for some to accept. This is a tale of a battle against one’s fate; one that begins with the chance meeting of the human boy Keita and the young Terra Guardian Kuro…
