I had no idea what to expect from a series that was so short, but I found the idea of a short series promising. And although I felt the idea of a shy boy in a love rivalry idea a little generic, I was certain that Tegoshi Yuya would find a way to make me fall in love with the idea. 15 Sai no Blues or 15 year old blues is a series about Sanada Kouhei, who has a fascination with flowers and an obsession with a girl at his school. This sensitive socially inept boy is broken forcefully out of his shell by his new tutor who teaches him the value of the blues. To be honest i was surprised to see Tegoshi Yuya in yet another darker role, but he did a marvelous job portraying a troubled teen! He was very captivating in his role, his expressions, despite the lack of words reached me as a watcher and helped me feel for his character.
The plot moved much too quickly for my tastes although, and despite Tegoshi's acting ability, he was the only character who stood out to me at all. Even the man who was playing the role of Kouhei's father seemed to put none of himself into his character. In fact even when his father made the emotional change to put his children before his work, it seemed as though it was just being said and not felt. Overall the cast was not as captivating as I had hoped for such a short series.
The series unfortunately fell a little sub-par of my expectations but was still an enjoyable and eye opening watch. It taught the lesson, that though it hurts the blues is within you and keeps your striving towards your goal.
