Aegis band members started their career as performers before foreigners in clubs and lounges all over Japan, first named as AG’s Sound Tripper. Grouped by AG Talent Development and Management of Lito and Josie Galindo, the band’s upstart in the local music scene is when the group recorded a demo containing soon-to-be monster hits Halik, Luha, and other songs. Presented by composer Nonoy Tan to Alpha Music EVP Alvin de Vera, there is no turning back for this group. It is de Vera who coined the named Aegis to the band, from the famous shield of the gods bearing the head of Medusa.
The Aegis audiences are always mesmerized by the incredible lung-power of sisters Juliet and Mercy Sunot. The two have been with the group since they started originally as AG's Soundtrippers (the letters A and G being their manager's initials). They later changed into Aegis in 1998 upon the advice of lead guitarist's Rey Abenoja's brother, Celso, who actually wrote most of their songs. Apart from the two sisters, keyboardist Stella Galindo is also the sister of the band's manager Lito. While his (Lito's) wife, Josie, is Rey's sister. This 'connection' perhaps explains why their relationship has never been shaken despite the intrigues and politics in showbiz.
