A music lovers dream of hitting it big!

Think of this as the monologs of Koyuki. Everything About this show is from the mind of Koyuki and so you get a lot of his thoughts in the mix. They do something different then normal slice of life shows. They go on the darker side of growing up. I see it as an ‘other side of the tracks’ anime from other shows. You don’t really see adults though unless they are complete assholes and even then, they aren’t much older. There is a lot of waiting in this show and times there really isn’t any talking or music.
The animation is somewhat bland but nice looking in that way. I don’t get what Koyuki’s friend’s hair is doing. He looks like he would be much older then he is with gray side burns and all. Most of the characters seem bland though it’s not like they look all the same. Some do have their own design that is easy to see. I did get mixed up with Koyuke’s girl friend and Maho, Ryusuke’s younger half sister. They look a little too similar for me to figure it out. Everything has grayness and sort of run down feeling which adds to the garage band feeling. They did really well for what I think was a low budget and made it all fit.
Now when talking about this, I do have to warn that there are places that the artwork really goes down hill on some parts, mostly to show that someone is hard core drunk. Frankly, I never saw someone have such expressions when they were drunk or just drinking so it feels off. Other small parts that this happens is when they zoom way out on characters but that happens a lot in a lot of different shows.
I love the opening of the show in the artwork because they actually used a lot of signs you would normally see in Verges. They play it almost like the old shows of people driving passed so they aren’t just static sign posts and that adds to the fun. The ending art feels like they stole sketch art from the manga and placed it in there.
The voices are pretty good and I feel it’s much better in English then in Japanese because it was set up like a American comic. The Japanese has a lot of something called ‘Engwish’ (That the name?) It means that the people talk broken English, mixed with Japanese. They talk over each other sometimes as well and don’t finish the sentences every once in a while. It’s really hard on the ears for a native English speaker like my self. Sometimes the sink doesn’t work all that well, but at least you can see that they really tried. Since the mouth moments are really realistic, it does sometimes not work.

I would definitely suggest to watch this anime dubbed. It just sounds award in Japanese. No offense there are some anime's that are great subbed and then there are some that are good dub. This is one of these anime's.

The dark tones and colors really put you in the mood for whats happening. It wasn't too flashy, it was just what this kind of anime needed. It had a realistic yet grungy feel to the animation.

There actually is no music in this show unless someone in the show is listening to it or playing it in the show’s world, with the exception of some moments where there is ambient noise in its place, which adds to the realism. The music in BECK, all of it, is fantastic rock, from lite British classic to rap-heavy punk, and there is ooooodles of it. No matter what your language, however, BECK’s concert performances, especially the pivotal final episodes at a music festival, have truly captured what it feels like to be at a concert and lose yourself in the passion and the sound, and that’s what’s so important and special about BECK. The diverse cast feels familiar and it’s always rewarding to hear them ROCK.

Overall, BECK is something special. It's one of a kind. In a sea of mecha, harem, and ninjas, BECK shines through with a very refreshing approach to the story of music. Everything is well paced, the characters are spot on, the animation does what it's supposed to, and the music rings in diverse and excellent. BECK is without a doubt something that should be checked out by music fans, but also by anyone who loves a good success story.

Very inspirational, I rented it from netfilx and I could get enough of it so I bought the DVD and the sound tracks. Its well worth it. Its always a good sign to see other people jam to the music and when they ask what your listen to they kind of respond with WHAT that cartoon music. Yep. It dang good.

If you havent watch this anime is good because it shows the life of a 15 year old kid who loves to play guitar but is not that good at it and also has a good voice to sing. He meets a weird dude that helps him play the guitar and also makes new friends and gets a girl.
This anime is Hilarious in some part but is good life experience kinda of anime.

You dont need to be a musicain to enjoy this truley wonderful underdog tale.

One certainly doesn't have to be knowledgeable of rock or a musician themselves to enjoy BECK, but it would certainly enhance the experience. BECK is an utterly compelling, exhilarating homage to the rock and roll mythos that takes place in Japan, but really could have taken place anywhere(that's not a knock on it, rather it shows how universally appealing the story and it's subject matter are). Indeed, with BECK, I sometimes forgot I was watching an anime altogether, the story, script and characters would do just as well in a live action tv series .

Koyuki is Japanese teenager who is a good guy, but on the meek side and nothing to show for himself. His life is forever changed when he incidentally crosses paths with Ryusuke, a street smart, charismatic sixteen year old who used play guitar for a famous American band, but since then has spent his time playing for unsuccessful groups in the local underground rock scene. After several chance meetings with Ryusuke, Koyuki begins hanging out with him and his new, fledgling band Beck, while teaching himself guitar. After his eventual acceptance into Beck, Koyuki pursues his passion while riding the turbulent ups and downs with his fellow bandmates while simultaneously experiencing the growing pains of adolescence and young love.

While BECK is still a underdog story a heart, it never less is very realistic in its portrayal of the band's journey from obscurity to "success". This realism and grittiness makes the characters up's and down's even more dramatically and emotionally charged then they normally would be. On the same note, the writing for BECK, especially in the dialogue department is excellent, as is the flawless (and superior) English dub. Likewise, the series boasts excellent production values seen in the top notch animation and most of all the abundance of original music created specifically for the show. The character development results in a core cast of characters that are simply fantastic, by the time the show ends you'll miss them quite a bit. The only two detractors for this stellar anime is the open ended conclusion that fails in giving a true sense of closure and then there are several weak episodes that are hurriedly paced and shoddily put together. Besides these relatively small complaints BECK is a winning, unforgetable anime that is refreshingly original in its execution and content while containing some of the best characters and drama ive seen in awhile in an anime. A definite must see.

It took me forever to figure out if i should buy this or not as i researched this through my local NEO /ANIME SITES and YOUTUBE TRAILERS
plus reviews rating it huge...

so I finally bought the boxset region1.. and it was well worth it for every penny !, the storyline is so cleverly worked out and the backstory of the bands that are and used to be and who plays better when the band is slowly forming it is great to see it coming to one piece..

if you are in to music and love rock/heavy metal and heavy pop ..you should totally go out and buy the boxset of BECK !... because the dvds are so worth it to watch... TRUST ME !!!

I WOULD RATE THIS 5 out of 5 for a series enjoy ! IF YOU DO !
