Black Lagoon

This is one of those anime that completely went under my radar when i was looking for a awesome action packed anime to watch, but after finding and watching this anime i have to say i was surprised on how good it really was. The story is pretty good for the most part, but i must say the way the story is and the way the whole series is in general gives a diffident cowboy bebop feel to it. The characters were ok, the main issue i had with these characters is the lack of development, the main character Rock ( his original name is something else but he was later named Rock) was the only person who got any development at all and there is also a lack of back story for the characters ( note that i haven't watched all the OVA's yet) you never find out in the two season run of the series why the characters are all in the Lagoon Company, The Music is probably the worst part of this anime because all of it was so forgettable with the ending theme being the worst. The animation is great it really is done the way i like it not too much detail but just enough.

Dont get me wrong this is an awesome anime, the action is just so exciting and put that with Rivy's Dark humor along with her itchy trigger finger and you've got yourself one hell of a ride. The only other real issue i had was the ending, but again i haven't seen the OVA's so maybe that concludes things. Overall, thanks to its dark humor, awesome action and one of the most bad ass chicks of all time it earns the 4.5/5 i gave it.

If your looking for an anime that appeals more to the western audience, look no further. If you finished Cowboy Bebop and want more than this is the show for you. A real manly show would contain all of the following, Violence, Guns, Cars, and well more violence, guns and cars...and black lagoon combines all six into one of the most actoin packed Animes out there. This show also sucessfully combines a great action story without having any real plot to it. Story revolves around a Japanese man (the only Japanese main character) Rock who is held captive by a group of pirates in the Pacific. He likes his captors so much he eventually develops Stockholm Syndrome and decides to quit his boring job to become a Pirate aboard the Lagoon. His fellow ship mates (i wouldnt call it a ship, more like a boat) are all sterotypical for action flicks. We have Dutch, the tough,big black guy and leader of the lagoon. Benny, the sterotypical math and computer whiz/hacker of the group, and lets not forget Revy, the lazy, pottymouth, trigger happy, duelwielding, sexy(-_-), gunman for the lagoon. The rest of the story breaks off into small 3 episode 'Arks' as the lagoon company lives their lives doing jobs for the russian mafia, searching sunken nazi u-boats for treasure, survivng the wrath of a terminator maid, selling guns to nuns...with guns and dealing with the killing spree of Evil, killer, incestual, vampire twins. Yeah you read that right, EVIL KILLER INCESTUAL VAMPIRE TWINS.....and more nazis. I would recomend this anime for anyone looking for an action packed, testasterone injected, guns blazing series. WARNING: Side effects include the random yelling of FUCK in public

This plot line reminded me a lot of Cowboy bebop, except Levi takes the lead as the hardcore leader of the group with a dark dangerous past, sort of like spike. She doesn't rely on her womanly talents to get what she wants (unlike Faye who I still love) she relies on her gun and her amazing fighting abilities rather which is what makes her so likable. She is solid in her resolve and almost becomes a role model for "Rock" as he quits his mundane life to join Levi and Dutch's group of mercenaries. An odd combination of folks, Benny the control room operator look more like a surfer from California while Dutch has many similarities again to the big guy on cowboy bebop Jet, a solid guy who stands back and lets his crew do their job because he knows they are good at what they do. A solid action plot with good graphics and good music. I highly recommend this anime.

This is AWESOME! I fully love this type of crime fiction where it’s pretty much out of control. The characters are so great that I really wish some of them would have more story lines for the other characters instead of always focusing on Revy and Rock. Don’t get me wrong, Revy is great and all, but Benny and Dutch seem just as interesting as her even without them flashing taint all over the place. (And please don’t… I really don’t want to see that part.)
Just as it is, it does feel a bit unfinished, the story line does have a couple times where they go off topic and the this season, they pretty much do odd jobs, they don’t really do anything note worthy until late in the game. They are almost non realistic, though they do have a lot of realistic banter within it. They tried to make it as real as it could without making the show boring. Also how Rock pretty much changes his look from Japan to pirate.
The Animation feels nice, like a cross between tome raider and gangster movies. I love how they separated the very formal world of Tokyo with the wonderful bright colors of the China sea. Animation is pretty well done and the action is wonderful. Really nicely well done without much 3D if anything.
The music is kick ass! The opening it really well done and gets your blood pumping for the amazing out of control ride this show is about. The ending though… well… it’s nothing great. I mostly found myself skipping it since it wasn’t really fitting the show. The slow moving walk was really odd and didn’t fit Revy at all.
