As one of the top ten best anime in the world i believe lol(my opinion). In my opinion the anime is absolutely awesome, with outstanding and cool storyline that resembles with real-world events(except for Geass lol). i think the anime is good for youngsters, but dont watch the nude part haha....

From the beginning. i thought code geass was a lame anime because of childish ultimate power called Geass....well that was in the BEGINNING....and along the way when i try to understand the story then suddenly I start to like this anime more. That was Season 1, but for R2......it grows even stronger....i began to research on the 'knightmares' which looks similar to both transformers and Gundam. The protagonist, Lelouch, i learnt many important things from him. He wants to change the world for the sake of his blind sister, Nunnally.

ALL HAIL LELOUCH! HIS PRESENCE SHALL NOT BE FORGOTTEN!

Summary

The series is set 7 years after the conquering of Japan by the Holy Britannian Empire using their new weapon, the Knightmare Frame, which happened in 2010, August 10th, we find a boy called Lelouch Lamperouge, to what appears to be a “normal” britannian high school student who lives alone with his kid sister Nunally. Later on the day that we see him, he accidentally stumbles upon a car crash, he goes to see if the people inside are hurt, but when he does he gets stuck inside the truck because it starts moving again, it turns out that the truck is owned by the Japanese resistance known as the black knights, which is carrying stolen cargo from the Britannian Empire. The cargo contains C.C. an immortal witch with the power to grant the power of geass, which gives the yielder the power to force their will upon others, and make them do whatever they say as long as the person is looking into their eyes when the order is given, however this can be only used on a certain person once, afterwards it is ineffective. Once C.C. and Lelouch are almost caught, C.C. bestows the power upon Lelouch, making a contract. Afterward Lelouch reveals that he is Lelouch Vi Britannia, the banished prince of Britannia, he then takes over the Black Knights under a secret identity known as the terrorist Zero, and takes on the Britannian Empire who has some secrets of it’s own.

Review

I first heard about this anime at the beginning of 2008 when someone on a French site claimed it to be the best anime of 2007. Several other fans seemed to agree so I thought I'd check it out.

After watching the first episode I was too overwhelmed by the amount of information thrown at me to really know whether or not I had enjoyed it. I kept to it though, but still felt a bit lost during the first ten episodes. After that, came a long pause during which I pondered whether or not I was going to continue watching this.

But it was still there, at the back of my mind. I wanted to know how the writers were going to wrap this story up. So I picked it up again and that's when I realized I'd gotten the hang of it, after a two months pause, the characters were still fresh in my mind. It felt like I'd never left them. Moreover, I was no longer confuse and could really appreciate the anime for what it was, unlike before when I was struggling to keep up with the story and its characters.

Now any anime that keeps itself curled up at the back of your head for two months is worth checking out. Furthermore, while I will keep my review, as it is always the case, spoilerfree or with very minor spoilers, I'll try to give you the background info you should have before launching into this adventure.

The strength of the anime resides in the opposition between Lelouch and Suzaku. One is a Britannian Prince who wishes nothing but to destroy his family's empire at any cost and I do mean at *any* cost. Suzaku is Japanese Eleven, soldier of the Britannian Army, considered by many as a traitor, who wishes nothing but to change the Empire from the inside in order to limit the number of deaths. The good guy is never who you think it's going to be. Both Lelouch and Suzaku strive for the same goal but have very different methods, and while their friendship is as strong as ever in their everyday life (they end up going to the same high school), they often fight one another on the battlefield without knowing it. Lelouch hides behind his alter ego, Zero, while Suzaku pilots the Knightmare, Lancelot.

It may seem like I've given you a lot of information but believe me, I haven't touched on any of the secondary characters. There's the mysterious girl who gave Lelouch the Geass, Karen who is one thing during the day and the exact opposite at night, not to mention all of Lelouch's half brothers and half sisters, Euphemia, Cornelia, Clovis and Schneitzel and the other high school students. You're in for a lot of surprises and revelations.

I really love the art, all of the character are very thin with sharp angles yet very gracefully drawn. I also love the bright colors.

Highly recommended anime if you're willing to really get involved story-wise because this is not something you can watch if your mind is elsewhere.

Season two has begun airing in Japan but I'm waiting for more episodes to be fansubbed before jumping into it.

Main Characters

LeLouch Lamperouge
Protagonist. The man behind Zero's mask. In the beginning of the series, he seems like an overly intelligent, sometimes cocky human being. And he is. But the difference between the beginning and the end is that he used to be bored with his life, unsatisfied with his position in society. However, when he gained the power of the Geass, he became overly cocky, making several tactical errors every now and then, and sometimes underestimating the enemy. But LeLouch picks up fast, and his character develops swiftly. LeLouch seems to be all the rage amongst the fangirls.

Suzaku Kururugi
LeLouch's childhood friend. When the two were young, Suzaku and LeLouch both hated the Brittanian empire with their guts. However, when the two are in their older years, Suzaku, has become an Honorary Brittanian. He now fights on the Brittanian side, against "Zero", who is actually his friend LeLouch. Hmm, THE PLOT THICKENS.

C.C.
This character's name is actually a mystery among fans. In one episode, it was described as a drop of water (or something like that). Many fans have taken guesses and made assumptions, but her name is still a memory. CC is the one that gave LeLouch the power of the Geass. She's also immortal.

Nunnally Lamperouge
LeLouch's sister. He cares dearly for her, as she is the only living relative (besides the Brittanian Emperor, whom he despises) he has (or so he thinks). Nunnally was crippled in the attack on her mother, and she was in the arms of her dying mother during the incident. She was also blinded from phsycological trauma. She is LeLouch's driving force.

Kallen Stadtfeld
Kallen Stadtfeld is a Britannian-Eleven girl who goes by her Britannian name when attending Ashford Academy, where she pretends to be ill to explain her prolonged absences. She believes herself to be Japanese at heart and prefers to be known by her birth name, Kallen Kouzuki. Kallen is a member of a Japanese resistance cell led by her brother, who died prior to the first episode, and later joins Zero's Black Knights. She is the group's most talented pilot and on par with the Knights of the Round. She pilots the unique Guren Mk-II. Her devotion to Zero is unmatched among the rest of the Black Knights.

This show brings back Gundam Wing, Pilot Canidate and anime Tech shows. The storyline just completes it and makes the show less boring as to not having it all about wars in outer space. Best recommended to fans of Gundam Wing or Pilot Canidate this show is definitely a watch.

Code Geass: Two Thumbs Up

Ah...Code Geass was definitely a very nice anime. It was a perfect balance of the School Life genre of anime and the Military/Mecha genre. And though I don't even like the Mecha genre, I adored Code Geass. I absolutely loved the style used to animate the show, and I couldn't help but watch the show in awe as the characters moved fluidly in front of my eyes. Alright, enough of that. Now onto the story:
Okay, Code Geass bore several similarities to another favorite of mine: Death Note. It was another case of a boy given a mysterious, yet somehow overwhelming power, which he later uses to change the world. Only this was also very different from Death Note. It was considerably brighter, and uplifting. The plot dealt with discrimination and equality issues. And though it wasn't very...original, it was unique in its own way.
Alright, onto the characters:
What I liked about these characters were that they were all so diverse. They each had their own personalities and conflicts and goals. They also reacted to things according to their exact personalities. Some of them rarely acted out of character at all. But then, there were also parts where they did something unexpected, which was something nice, too.
So, All in all, this was a great anime. It was well-balanced and intriguing. I definitely recommend it to anyone who is an anime fan.

Definitely Worth Watching

I am usually fairly critical about anime series, but I have to rate this as probably one of the top 10 maybe even top 5 best animes of all time.

The character development from the beginning is superb and the storyline flows nicely from that. The main characters are intelligent and make unexpected but definitely in-character decisions and actions. While many weaker animes are predictable, this one keeps you guessing. The protagonist is constantly being faced with what seems impossible challenges, he doesn't always win, but what plays out is believable and always interesting and surprising.

There is a strong human element in it. The usual feelings of insecurity, pride, hatred, love, jealousy, suspicion etc are very well integrated into the characters and played out as you would expect. The main characters therefore have much depth.

The underlying strength of this anime I think is that it has a deep plot that feels like it has been well planned from the beginning to the end of season 2. You can see this in seeds that are planted early on and throughout the series that don't reveal their significance until much later on.

This is definitely a must watch.

Absolutely Superb...

This anime is, without the slightest hint of doubt, the best anime I have ever seen.

Break it down:

Storyline

The storyline is, to put it simply, bloody amazing. I have never in my entire life been through more of an intense anime-induced roller coaster of emotions than when I watched this show. The kind of anime where you really don't know who is going to die next, or whether or not the main characters plans are going to succeed or fail. Every single time I ever called what was going to happen in this show, it promptly proceeded to punch me in the face and move in a direction I didn't even know existed.

The last 5 minutes of the last episode of the series made the entire show worth watching. I was speechless after first viewing the ending, and felt as emotionally raw as I did after my first break up. The cathartic release is indescribable.

Music

Music isn't as prevalent in this series than in others I've seen in the past, as there is a lot of dialogue and robot fighting sounds. But when the moment was right, the music really added to the moment.

Characters

Lelouch (read: main character of the series) was a magnificently awesome bastar... character. I want to be him. The rest of the characters were decent enough, but there's no question who the star of this series is.

Animation

This is the area where this anime receives the greatest amount of criticism. The animation during the dramatic scenes bordered on ridiculous. The expressions were a thousand times exaggerated, and often the dramatic impact of the moment would be drastically weakened due to the overwhelmingly distracting animation.

However, I disagree. While the animation is ridiculous, one grows accustomed to it fairly early in the series. So when you see Lelouch's face nearly twist off his face when SPOILERS SPOILERS LOTS OF REALLY COOL SPOILERS WOULD GO HERE, the hilarious nature of the animation really only becomes apparent when examining the show post mortem.

Watch this show. Seriously, do it. If you have an appreciation for having your stomach churn and your heart ripped out every 5-10 minutes, this anime is everything you've ever wanted. And more.

i never knew i could like this anime so much... im very thankful to my friend who introduced me to this anime... since i had since loved the gundam series and death note, i came to realize that i really like the storyline of this anime..

this anime as others tell is what they describe as GUNDAM MEETS DEATH NOTE because of the machines they use which are like those used in the gundam series.. and death note because of the results of acquiring the geass same as acquiring or using the deathnote..

one thing that also made me like the anime is because of the bishounen characters especially Lelouch (i really adore bishounens.. haha).. but then overall.. i rate the characters, animation, BGM and storyline as great...

so i really reccomend this anime to those who havent watch this anime... its an anime worth watching for... something to set your eyes upon.. ^o^

Well if you didn't watch this anime yet... WHAT ARE YOU WAITING?
It was really good... I when first tried to watched it, i had the idea, that it would be some kind a lame fighting anime,,, And i conclude that I was so wrong,,, This anime is amazing it inspire you... the all story is awesome, and include a lot of things.
Some people didn't like the first season ending,,, but i loved it. It make even the anime more creative, to make you imagine what might have happened,,, and then the second season came, so it filled the rest of the story.
This anime, might make you hate some specific characters, and love others, and make you judge the good persons then the bad ones,,, and proves that even the good persons can sometimes be bad ones at the same time (I don't know if that made any sense) but, i just need to say WATCH IT! You will love it (I mean watch it all through)
