Caska is the only female member of the Band of the Hawk as well as the commander of their main soldier group. Originally she was the youngest daughter of a farming family living in an extremely destitute area of Midland. Early in her childhood the situation became especially grim when her family could no longer afford to support all of their children and Caska was still too young to work. As a result she was sold into slavery to a passing noble that suffered from many twisted desires and fetishes. Shortly after this the Noble attempted to rape Caska who resisted and fled.

After having been chased down she was saved by Griffith who gave her a sword and told her to fight for her life if she valued it. Using his gift she fought back and killed the Noble. Ever since she has been fiercely loyal to Griffith going so far as to be infatuated with him. Guts arrival changed Caska's life dramatically however. She saw herself fall from being Griffith's closest aide to being second best to Guts, whom she considered reckless and uncaring.
