In China where cooking is a great art, a young boy, Mao, has lived in his late mother's restaurant for his whole life. However, when a travelling cook tries to take the restaurant for his own, Mao must defend the cooking tradition of his home and mother. He catches the eye of the emperor's head chef and is told to improve his cooking. His adventures send him all over China as he learns a lot about cooking and friendship.
