Cowboy Bebop is simply a classic. Even though the animation is a bit outdated you can't help to get lost in it. A storyline that twists and turns at ever angle keeping you on the edge of your seat at all times. You think you can predict whats going to happen next and then when you watch the next episode, guess what? your wrong. The music, i just love it. My favorite tracks of the anime would have to be the opening song "Tank!" and "The Real Folk Blues". I have those on my ipod lol. Love how they used a lot of trumpets and the music at times amped up the anime and made me more excited. Moving on to the characters. Every single one is different, not only drawn different but they all have their own back stories, that i loved learning. Spike, who is supposedly dead but isn't and wants nothing more than to get his love back. But he also has an evil brother whom he fights to the end. Edward who is an adorable little girl, also i thought she was a boy at first lol. She's a genus and her past is a little foggy. Faye who is so gorgeous and old.. She was frozen from an accident she had many years ago. They didn't have the technology to fix her so they froze her until they could. In return she forgot about her past. All she knows is she as a giant debt and a gambling problem. She joins Spike and the gang to make money and to find out more about her past. Then there is Jet who has such a past that even i became confused at times. He wants nothing more than to keep his plants alive and make money to survive. The creators did such an amazing job putting them all together. And so many other wonderful characters.. Moving on to animation. Its old so you know it won't be that great. But its not jumpy, its clean, maybe just a tad fuzzy but like i said.. its old. The movements are fluid the shading is almost spot on. They did a great job on that! The anime is simply amazing, it has everything, comedy, drama, romance, action. Its a must see.

Cowboy Bebop Review.

Man, where to begin...The story line itself is very emotional as well as funny and serious. Its also mysterious as far as what history spike and the others had before becoming bounty hunters and what will become of them. Thou they seem distant, the crew very much becomes attached to each other further into the story line and unlocks more about each others past. Even thou it is a consistent story line a person can watch whatever episode they want in any order and still be interested and know whats going on.

The music also accents the anime perfectly, even if your not a fan of jazz.. It mellows wonderfully into the emotion the characters portray. Giving you added feeling into the story itself.

The characters all have there own story to finish even thou they seem to live for the moment and let the cards fall into fate. Like spike and the rest of the crew there past is very much unknown until they actually run into it again. Each one getting there own episode, thou the anime is centered around spike it doesn't leave other characters out in the cold. Even when a particular episode is not about there past. I want to elaborate about the characters more but words cant really describe them completely.

The animation is not generic like some anime, it has a very western feel to the art style. Its unique in the fact that the music and emotion in the anime work fluently with the animation and surroundings. Even thou its in the future the old style surrounds and dark mod like a gotham, gives it the right amount of nostalgia.

Overall its a perfect example of a anime with a good story and characters.

One of the best Anime's of all time!

I know I'm not the only person who thinks this anime is amazing: it's really top quality, one of the best. I gave it five stars in all categories. The storyline awesome. Even though the series takes place in the future, the setting was extremely realistic. Sure, there was technology and all, but it wasn't something like Star Trek where people are being beamed around here and there (don't get me wrong, I like Star Trek okay, but some of there technology is just...unbelievable.) The series adds just enough mystery around the characters to keep you interested and guessing exactly what happened in their past, and although nothing is completely spelled out to you, you're able to reach your own conclusions to where they go at the end of the series.

The music is fantastic. It's one of the few anime's where I actually went out and bought the music! I liked FMA's soundtrack, too, but this one was such a great mix. From blues, to techno, to classical, to jazz, this series has it all, and does it an a great way. I also like how each episode's title had to do with music--it was a clever way to tie in the eclectic music with the randomness of the series itself. And that unique mixture of varying music and themes within the story help to make this series not only fun, but also timeless and a favorite of many anime fans.

Each character could stand on their own, too. Even the dog has personality and a "voice" in this series! The characters are well developed and act realistically--like someone in real life might act. This held true in their every day interactions, conversations, and actions in general. They all had an interesting back story, too. The characters weren't just thrown together and expected to stand on their own without any support. These people were three dimensional, erratic at times, but down to earth, true to their nature, filled out characters.

And the animation is outstanding. It was crisp, clean, refreshing. Filled with action in some parts, and artsy scenes in others. The play on light during certain episodes helped to make different scenes very intense, but well executed. Very good quality. Top of line in my book.

I highly suggest this anime to anyone. I use it as my "gateway" anime for people I know who just think anime is "cartoons." It's a great eye-opener for these people, and it shows people anime as an art form: a piece that entertains, yes, but also has a life in and of itself. If a person can't like Bebop, then it's safe to say, there's not much that any show, in any genre, is going to give them. This is simply the cream of the crop.

My friend introduced me to the box set, movie, and soundtrack of Cowboy Bebop. The characters
are great, the music is fantastic, and I never saw the ending coming. Ed was my favorite character
where Valentine was one of my lesser choices.. hard to start watching but after five or so episodes
you're hooked!

The above phrase is shown at the end of nearly all Cowboy Bebop episodes. It wouldn't mean anything to most people, but for those who have watched this series, it is a saying they will never forget.
Cowboy Bebop is a tale of four bounty hunters from the year 2071. In one way or another they have found each other and now live life as it comes (or rather, they live from one bounty to the next.) Though this show only has five episodes that actually seem to follow a plot, you still feel like you've gained something more when you're done watching.
I will admit: I was a bad watcher of anime and didn't do much right. The manga, which came out after the anime (to add a few more adventures for those who weren't satisfied) was what I read first. The first episode I watched was episode 9, and then I watched episodes 18-26. But I still got the whole story, and hey, at least there are a few more adventures I'll get to watch before I'm totally done with the series.
I loved every character to death and loved the story, too. I laughed, I cried, and I thought, "I never knew people could smoke quite as much as Spike Spiegel does." I don't want to give away too much, so I'll just leave it at this: Cowboy Bebop is probably the best anime I've ever watched. If you get the chance, watch the series. You won't be disappointed.

I highly recommend this anime because its a good storyline despite the boring characters. I do feel that they can revive and continue this anime. The movie wasn't bad as well. I'm somewhat looking forward to the live action movie starring Keanu Reevs but i'm not expecting much.

Synopsis:

Man has launched himself from earth to colonize other planets and Cowboy is a term used to describe the bounty hunters of the era. Those left behind are living on a planet we wouldn’t recognize as Earth. A world of poverty and limited resources in an era when individuals can also have their own means of space travel opens the door to many more avenues of criminal activities. Spike and Jet are two men flying a ship called Bebop that are ready and willing to meet the need for bounty hunters in these times of overt criminal activity and violence.

Plot Rating: 10

It’s a futuristic setting with a decimated earth and humans are colonizing the rest of the solar system. The series is set up like a short sitcom series with several stories stretched out over a span of 26 episodes.

When the series opens, Jet and Spike are chasing down a criminal who is also running from the mob for stealing a large amount of extremely valuable drugs that take months to make a single small vial. The drug makes the criminal they are after superhuman in speed and strength but he turns out to be no match for the pressure of the bounty hunters and mob who are both hot on his trail for different reasons. Spike nearly meets his end at every turn it seems, and yet he also looks invincible. Fairly early on, Vicious enters the series and we start to learn that he is extremely dangerous and he has a personal grudge with Spike Spiegel. Amazingly, Vicious is also one of the most famous anime villains in the world of anime. Still, spike has several other superb adversaries and he takes them all on with his usual grace.

Jet and Spike both have pasts that eventually catch up with them. We learn that Spike was running from syndicate membership, something his brother is still caught up in. By the end of the series both will have lost people close to them. Jet loses a partner he once trusted and Spike loses the only woman he loved, Julia. A man named Vicious now has to die, or Spike will die trying to close that man’s eyes for eternity.

SEE YOU SPACE COWBOY…

Characters:

Spike and Jet are two bounty hunters of the future that always come out on top by stroke of luck and ability. Neither of them are pure of character but they do tend to be of good intent. They are typical successful people of poor and honest background, driven to work hard and risk a lot to get ahead. They don’t risk their future on much in the way of criminal behavior but they don’t let much get in their way of recovering a bounty either. Spike is the cheerful, cynical type that you don’t want to take lightly. The guy is quick on his feet, quicker with his hands, and if all else fails he has luck on his side in spades. Jet is an ex-cop with a mechanical arm and a head full of mechanical ability

Soon they are joined by a couple of real characters. One is named Ed, which I think is female. Ed is a computer genius and technological wiz. She has a bubbly and somewhat childish personality but never seems to find a reason to be upset. Her companion and pet is a genetically engineered dog named Ein that is highly intelligent and was used for data storage. The dog’s mind was enhanced beyond that in some ways of even most humans so this playful pet can even whip you in chess if given the chance. Also joining the crew is Fay. She becomes the unlikely bounty hunter. What she is best at is cheating in the gambling halls but her quick eye and fast responses make her a dangerous one to have to deal with if she is after you.

Sound & Graphics Rating: 10

Jazz baby, feel that vibe! The sound in this animated series is a good deal of its character. The jazz flows and gives it depth as soon as the animation begins. Any animator willing to put effort into its product to this extent will never have any problem getting a following. The most notable music in this series is performed by Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts. The graphics are pretty simplistic but with a lot of detail where it makes a difference. Not so much detail in realism, as details like shadow and motion. The sound effects, well there are a lot of them and they sound very realistic. Gun shots, explosions, the sound of Mad Perot’s suit flapping in the wind as he glides through the air. There is a lot of detail in the production of this series and you have no reason not to find a lot to like about the final product.

Entertainment & Replay Value Rating: 10

This series has become somewhat of a phenomenon all over the world. For such a short series, it is probably more well known than many anime that are many times larger in number of episodes and years longer in time running. The reason? This series is 100% good entertainment. It has a Star Wars pioneer frontier feel with a completely different style and plot. This series isn’t about a savior, it isn’t about a hero. This series is simply about a couple of normal guys that have plenty of character flaws but are at heart just damn good people with a drive to earn an honest living while having a good time. Who can’t get into a plot like that? Just to be honest, this anime is one of my favorites and I will probably always find a reason to watch it again.

Genres: Action

Age Rating: PG-13

Number of Episodes: 26 (why they ended it with only 26 mystifies me)

Hey there, Space Cowboy...

I've heard many great things of Cowboy Bebop. It's considered to be one of the best anime to ever be created, along with Neon Genesis Evangelion. Since Evangelion haunts me with the image of Asaka getting her eye poked out with a spear, I went over to see this. If anything, it's definitely one of the finest anime I've ever seen and I'm not really a big fan of anime.

The story of Cowboy Bebop revolves around Spike Spiegel, a bounty hunter who travels with his bounty hunter partner, Jet Black, on the ship Bebop as they travel around the galaxies collecting bounties. Along the way, they carry along Faye Valentine, a woman with enormous debts, Edward, an expert hacker (who is also a girl), and Ein, a Welsh Corgi that's smarter than the average dog. The overall theme is about confronting one's past. Each character holds different pasts and each one confronts it later in the show. Still, the plot is simple for anyone to follow, even non-anime fans.

The music is terrific. Coming from jazz myself, the jazz numbers are incredible, including the opening theme, Tank! I guess my only complaint is that I would love to hear some orchestral music for some dramatic moments, but in the end, it doesn't really matter. It's better off without it, but it wouldn't hurt either.

The characters are great and some even likable. Spike is a cool, laid-back kind of guy that has a heart. He's also an excellent fighter. Jet is also likable, as in he portrays himself as a hardworking, tough bounty hunter, but has a warm heart as well. Faye has an attitude and is kind of a snob, but she gets better near the end. Edward is hilarious because of her supposed mental illness that would be referred to as ADHD. Ein is cute and lovable that you want to have as your pet.

The animation is surprisingly well done, considering that it was done in the late 90s. During those times, I watched Pokemon that was made around the same time and Cowboy Bebop has the better animation than Pokemon. The characters are a little bit more active than just being static with only one or two frames of mouth movement, the environments are well-detailed, and the character designs are great, especially on Faye.

Overall, this is definitely the beginner's anime. Anyone who's not an anime fan can dig this anime and become infatuated by it's great storyline, excellent music, awesome animation, and a great show altogether. See you, Space Cowboy.
