Synopsis:

Diclonius are mutated Homo sapiens supposedly chosen by God to become the destruction of mankind. They possess two horns on their heads and have invisible weapons called vectors. These Vectors have the ability to manipulate and cut objects within their reach. The objects they are able to manipulate depend upon the strength of the Diclonius. Due to the danger of this power, they have been captured and isolated in government laboratories.

Plot:

Lucy, a young and psychotic Diclonius, manages to escape from her confines and brutally murder most of the security guards in the facility. It seems as though she escapes unscathed, but before she actually made it off the island, a sniper shot a .50 caliber round at her head. The bullet was deflected by her metallic helmet and she fell into the ocean. Kohta and Yuka, Kohta’s cousin, encounter Lucy naked on the beach bleeding from a wound in her head and only capable of saying the word “Nyu.” They then decide to take her home with them and name her after the only word she can say, Nyu. A Diclonius named Nana and a Special Assault Team lead by a man named Bando are sent to retrieve Lucy and bring her back to the facility, in order to keep the existence of Diclonius a secret.

Characters:

Now onto our favorite section, am I right? Lucy, the psychotic Diclonius, is our first main character that I’m going to talk about. She is around 18 years old, and has developed strong emotions of hatred and vengeance towards regular humans because of the treatment that she had received from the majority of them as a child. She lacks empathy, killing without concern, and seems to be somewhat sadistic; however, towards the end of the series she begins to show remorse for her actions, especially actions which affected Kohta directly. Nyu, my favorite character of the series next to Lucy, is a split personality that Lucy develops after being shot in the head during her escape from her prison. She is very childlike and has a massive lack of worldly knowledge. Nyu lacks language skills other than nyu, but she begins to learn words and phrases as the anime progresses. She is also innocent and incapable of violent acts, the exact opposite of Lucy, basically the manifestation of Lucy’s “good side”. Whenever Nyu is hit on the head, or confronted with violence, she transforms back into Lucy. Last but not least is Kohta. Kohta lives in his cousin’s family closed down inn in exchange for maintenance while he attends the local university there. He has repressed traumatic memories of his father’s and sister’s death from his childhood at Lucy’s hands. Kohta has no memory of Lucy at all. Due in part to his loss, he has a soft spot for girls in trouble and is extremely generous and protective of the girls around him, basically, the nice gentleman.

Sound & Graphics:

To tell you the truth, this anime has amazing sound and graphics, especially graphics in my opinion. When it shows a limb being torn off, it gets very detailed. It shows the skin ripping, then it shows the muscle ripping apart, and the sounds are a great compliment to make it seem real. You actually hear the skin and muscle ripping and tearing apart, very gruesome. Also, when a limb gets sliced off by the vectors it’s very graphic, it shows everything being cut and even shows the bone being cut through, and the showing of blood in this anime very tremendous.

Entertainment & Replay Value:

Absolutely, I would definitely watch this anime again. This anime ranks within my top 10 with Code Geass and Kanokon. This is a must see if you like bloody, gory animes. I wouldn’t recommend this anime for the faint of heart, or if you you’re very queasy. Watch with caution, and enjoy!

The anime is so boring. There are bunch of people with superpowers running around fighting each other. They all have their little posses. The storyline progresses at a snails pace, and jumps from group to and you never really can tell who these people are, what in the world is going on, or why what your are seeing is happening. You get some "clues" about what the heck is going on at the end but by then you probably won't even care. The characters are pretentious. Most of them are freaky looking in or just a plain freakshow some way. It is pretty much clear which ones have some kind of power. I pretty much would like to drop-kick every single one of them. There is action but most episodes absolutely nothing happens to advance the plot. It's just periods of random chaos and periods of random nothingness. I am pretty upset because I kept watching this show waiting for it to get good because I really though the animation was excellent, but it never did get good. Now I can never get those hours back.

Darker than Black is an awesome anime! Hei or what others call him, Li Shengshun is the main character. He is the so called BK201 or a contractor. In the anime, he mostly helps the good enemies...(are there even good enemies?) haha anyway yes, he is a criminal for being a contractor. anyway...graphics, songs, story and characters are great! XD most especially HEI!! XDD **melts** haha OVERALL RATING OF ANIME: VERY GOOD DESU! XD oh and i forgot! Darker Than Black i think is a chinese anime though the anime makers are japanese...

1.Over all the anime is well good, kept me on my toes, cause you can never predict what they will do next.

2. The story was al-right, but could have explain more which could have been helpful. yet it was good .

3. The music was okay .

4. The character, well in this anime, they all played a good role in performace, but I'll say never judge a book by it's cover.

5. The show is pretty well played good.

Darker Than Black is a great action anime. If you want an anime that has some blood and a lot of action, I recommend Darker Than Black. I think the storyline is great, but I also think it is a bit hard to follow. You really have to pay attention to what is going on in the story. Otherwise this is an amazing anime.
