While Professor Utonium and his son, Ken, were trying to study and stabilize the substance known as "Chemical X", a daifuku bun (rice cake) accidentally fell into it, turning the solution into Chemical Z.
Shortly after, a series of bizarre events began to spread across the globe, and Ken imprudently uses the newly formed chemical Z in an attempt to restore order, only to transform 3 regular junior-high school girls ~ Akatsutsumi Momoko (Blossom), Gotokuji Miyako (Bubbles), and Matsubara Kaoru (Buttercup) ~ into transforming, magical girls. Thus, THE POWERPUFF GIRLS Z ARE BORN! But even with order restored, monsters begin to appear left and right in the city of Tokyo. Taihen! Peach! The signal!
