The story is about a teenage boy named Abel who was 16 year old and accompanied by Sorcerer Janac and Daisy the swordswomen. One day they begin on a quest to search for eternal life. Legend has it, they must drink the dragon's blood to achieve their goal. Baramos, a creature from undersea kingdom of Estarkh would kidnap Tiala, Abel's sweetheart. She also happens to be the guardian of the Red Stone.

Dragon Quest's popularity in Japan led to the creation of an anime series drawn by Akira Toriyama. The series was modeled after Dragon Quest III. It follows the journeys of Abel, guardian of the mythical Blue Stone. Together with Tiana, the guardian of the Red Stone, Abel resists the Archfiend Baramos and his insidious plans.
