Often called the God of Death incarnate, Duo Maxwell is the amiable pilot of Gundam Deathscythe. In stark contrast to his more serious allies, Duo is rather happy-go-lucky in spite of the harsh reality of the war. That said, underneath the smiles lies a complex and conflicted character with much more to offer than just pure comic relief. Though he may come off as sneaky and perhaps cowardly, he affirms that he is always honest no matter what.

Growing up as a street orphan, Duo Maxwell takes his name from the leader of his street gang (Solo) and the Maxwell Church in which he was eventually raised. When the war against the United Earth Sphere Alliance came to his colony, his only home was destroyed and he ended up stowing away on a ship belonging to the Sweeper Group.

Instead of ousting the youth, the Sweeper Group recruited him and he was thus trained to become a Gundam pilot. Due to the horrors of war that he has witnessed, Duo says that while he does not believe in an omnipotent, benevolent god he certainly believes in the God of Death.
