This show is rather hard to follow sometimes, showing a lot of thought into it. It’s not great if you want your mind to shut off but if you really want something to think about, it’s great. It’s hard to follow at first but I fell in love with the story line and the meanings behind everything that happen. I was second guessing myself every once in a while to figure out what was real and what was all in the mind. So many things about it get turned around and become a mind-fuck (Pardon the language) that most of the times, the end of the episode left me with more questions than answers. I still have many questions about the show that were not answered, or were just half answered.
They never give you a true answer in the end as well, making up a lot of problems when they leave me scratching my head but I guess this is what happens when you look at the journey of self discovery and it's not you that your learning about. My thoughts on that are watch it more than once to get the true meaning of the show.
The characters are wonderfully created and fully detailed in background story but I feel we do not spend enough time on them. Still, the women lead, Re-L is a wonderful choice as although she is a perfect character in Romdeau, she feels out-of-place in the outside world and yet if she is considered Yin, we can fully call Vincent yang. They are opposites that seem to be attracted by one thing and that it to find out the truth, no matter what is in store for them.
The artwork has rather a dark, gray, sleepy feeling to the look that could make you fall asleep at times. The darkness makes it hard to see and even when I had my brightness set high, it was still hard for me to see. It is like walking through a tunnel where you see only shadows of things. Now that is mostly for the outside world of Romdeau where most of the story actually seems to take place. On the inside, it maybe still gray but the area is much lighter and they even have a substitute sky up however unrealistic that may look.
The music is hunting and scary if you’re not ready for it but I still loved it none the less. It was mostly instrumental and choir vocals which made some of the scenes a little… well… godlike I guess, or made me believe that whoever was around was not a normal human or something that was above human thought.

Ergo Proxy kind of pulls you in with the first disk but let me tell you it never gets any better. It gets worse. The animation is good, though the constant darkness gets to the point where you cant see anything half the time. The fight scenes are just jumping back and forth and then turn into just mind games and illusions. The main characters are: timid guy who always smiles, b!tchy girl whos always acting like the world exists for her and a robot girl. A worse line up Ive yet to experience. Oh wait, is this Evangelion?
The storys all about Vincent and recovering his memory, which every time it shows nothing really about his memory, he blocks it again making all the episodes pointless besides the very last one. All the way to the 23rd episode you really learn nothing though except what a Proxy is, which is revealed on the last episode.
After they get outside the city the story stops and it just spans into a variety of OVAs that all end without you understanding a thing or effecting the other episodes. This is NOT complex, just random babbling by background characters, and the main characters themselves repeating the same dialog and thinking the same questions till the end. Its mostly throw away filler through out every episode. It gets to the point where they stop showing what happens and just jumps to different scenes making you just say oh I guess they got caught or something since they just some how got here. Its extremely boring, and lame, witch hunter robin is exciting compared to this, and ghost in the shell tolerable.

The story goes like this:
Mankind is on its last leg. We have been forced into these domes of sorts to take refuge from the disease-ridden outside world. There exist many of these domes, yet few have any connection with the outside world. Inside the dome of Romdeau is a metropolis. The utopia of Romdeau composes of both humans and Autoreives (androids). However, all is not perfect in Romdeau. An onset of the Cogito Virus has caused many of the Autoreives to gain a soul and led them to kill humans. Along with this, there has been the sudden appearance of this mysterious creature that has superhuman abilities. This humanoid is the proxy.
Re-L Mayer of the Citizen Intelligence Bureau is the granddaughter of Donov Mayer, the Regent of Romdeau. She has been put in charge of the investigation of the murders committed by the Cogito-infected Autoreives. However, on a chance in counter, she meet the proxy. Though the meeting lasted only a few seconds, Re-L life has changed forever. As her interest for the proxies peak, she finds herself drawn to Vincent Law, an immigrant. The two of them set out on a journey outside the doomed city of Romdeau to discover the truth behind proxies and their mysterious world.
This anime is kinda dark, from the story to the art even. The beginning of the anime flowed pretty fast and was intense. However, after awhile, the episodes didn't seem to flow anymore. It seemed like they were just put there to take up time and had no relevance with the previous episodes. Nevertheless, the basic storyline is captivating. You will watch as Re-L starts to change as the story progresses, and you will see the underlying love story.
The anime is pretty complex and takes a little effort to truly understand what is really going on. However, you should still watch this!
