I won't bother creating a synopsis for the story, there is already one on the main page anyway.
I will start with the greatest asset this anime has to offer, and that is the sound. The music and voices in this anime are absolutely phenomenal. Each character has their own interesting personality, and their voice actors reflect that perfectly. The music also far surpasses Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece.
The characters are all interesting, and there was very few I actually didn't care for, and with a cast so large, that is saying something. There is a favorite character for everyone in this series, which is why I stuck with it until the end.
That does however bring me to a problem. Unlike the series's mentioned above, the animation in Eyeshield 21 falls short. The series is typically well drawn, with a few awkward angles, but the overall flow seems very rushed and unappealing. This does get significantly better as the series goes on, but only the last episodes really look as good as the whole series should have in the first place. Prepare for some lackluster effects and bad transitional sequences. That being said, this is really the only factor that holds Eyeshield back from getting a touchdown.
The story is simplistic, but gets a good score. The reason for this isn't so much the s tory itself, but the story TELLING that propels the series forward. It is rare for me to actually care about fictional characters and their goals, but I really wanted Deimon to make it to the Christmas Bowl.
The anime does end at episode 145, which oddly enough, is one game BEFORE the Christmas Bowl, likely due to low ratings, but don't let them fool you, this series is awesome. The manga continued up until chapter 333, so for those eager to finish the story after the anime ends, the manga is where you should turn to, and you WILL be.
If the animation was better, this series would be a 5/5, but still gets a well deserved 4.5

One of the best anime sports game.
An anime that centers in the moral of perseverance, teamwork, and sportsmanship. A thrilling suspense in every battle against different teams (that focuses on such themes like: Wild gunmans [cowboys] and Ojou White Knights [medieval] )
The theatrical techniques (that also centers on the given team name (Example:Devil Bats; Devil bat ghost) that you will surely enjoy!
Great character building that inspires all sports players out there.
An anime in which the emotions of the main characters will surely reach you.
an all-in-one that everyone will surely enjoy (even those anime fans who doesn't have a sports fetish.)
You'll surely stand up and cheer! "eyeshieldo-kun! ichiban!"

Eyeshield 21 definitely is reccomended to people who are interested in action and comedy animes! With intense battles, challenging obsticles, and a few tips about football, garanteed to be good. The characters are interesting, each had a very unigue personality. In so many ways Hiruma was the best, with a devil like personality, you never know what he's thinking, and he makes a dull episode bright! It may be boring at some points but as the story gos along you'll find yourself unable to stop.
In my opinion what was most interesting was the different teams they came across.
"Sena, a timid, shy boy, finally passes the high-school entrance exam. Since he was a child, Sena had been bullied into running errands." His passion for not giving up makes think that I can do anything as long as I try. Overall Eyeshield 21 was GREAT!

Summary
Sena Kobayakawa is an unassuming wimp who has just enrolled onto Deimon High school. His childhood friend, Momori Anezaki suggests he join a club that he likes. However, Sena, being the wimp that he is, is immediately picked on by the local bullies, only to meet the sensitive, but rather large, soul Kurita Ryokan. When the local bullies plan to use Sena’s cellphone to beat up Kurita, Sena runs like hell. Luckily, being the lackey of other bullies for the past 10 years, Sena has learned the finer points of sprinting. As such, he’s able to speed up to 40 yards in 4.2 seconds, the perfect speed for a running back. And it just so happens, Hiruma Yoichi is ‘recruiting’ members for the Deimon Devilbats . . .
See, this is what I like about Shounen anime. People are mean to each other. They pick on each other, or worse, they blackmail each other in order to make them play for the team. Just so happens, Hiruma Yoichi is insane enough to hogtie Sena and recruit him into the Deimon Devilbats.
Eyeshield 21 centers around Sena, as he tries to hide his identity as the miraculous running back of the Deimon Devilbats. If anyone finds out about his true identity, the other clubs will mad dash in order to recruit him. The goal of the Devilbats: to go to the Christmas Bowl, where the best high school teams compete.
Review
The plot of Eyeshield 21 is so original. It concerns a group of misfits trying to win the big game. Oh wait….No it’s not! People, this is formula writing if you ever seen it. Lemme break it down for you.
1. Sena and friends will talk about the opposing team.
2. Sena will get his ass handed to him during the entirety of the first half, being the pussy that he is.
3. Things will look really bad.
4. Then, Hiruma, being a genius that he is, will come up with a super play, making a comeback.
5. A backstory of the opposing team plays in order to feel sympathy for them.
6. Comedic highjinks will occur.
7. Sena will finally stop being a pussy and run to get a touchdown, winning the game.
Is it repetitive? Yes. Is it predictable? Yes. Is it boring?
…Well, hey, no one said formula writing couldn’t be fun! That’s what Eyeshield 21 does best. It takes formula writing, but manages to have fun with it. Each game has enough visual metaphors and verbal kick that you feel like you’re watching DBZ or Looney Toons rather than American football. You get your cowboy team, your sea-based team, and what-the-hell, a team of musical spiders. Sena will always meet a linebacker in these games. He will always be blocked by the lineback until the very end. And when his opponent loses, he’ll make friends with them, just like every Shounen Jump storyline.
Friendship, loyalty, hard work…yadda, yadda, yadda. If you’ve seen a football movie before, you know the themes already. If you haven’t, well, be ready to have basic sports story themes 101. Face it, you’re not watching this for the life lessons; you’re watching this because you want to watch some football.
When people ask, “Why would you want to watch something if you know the end result?”, the answer is the same whether it’s DBZ or any other Shounen Jump anime. It’s not about what will happen, it’s about how it will happen. We all knew Son Goku will save the world, one way or another. But it’s that present moment where you’re holding your breath in suspense, waiting for the end result, having doubt in your mind. And you’ll tell yourself, “Maybe they won’t. Maybe they won’t.”
Besides that, if you can forgive the flaws of a Shounen Jump anime: the questionable laws of physics, the inconsistent animation, the repetitive formula, the slow pacing and the rampant amount of fillers, then you’ll like Eyeshield 21 just fine.
I know I did.
Characters
If it wasn’t for the characters, people would’ve tuned out of Eyeshield 21 long ago. However, thanks to some genuine development, as well as some talented voicework, Eyeshield 21 is never stale. You’ve got Miyu Irino as Sena, and Yamaguchi Kappei (Who’s L in Death Note as well as Usopp in One Piece) who’s terrific as Monta. But real credit has to go to Atsushi Tamura who plays Hiruma.
While you’ve got the typical stock characters in the genre: Sena as the reluctant pussy, Monta as the best friend, Momori as the big sister and Kurita as the gentle giant, Hiruma brings a whole ‘nother game in football. Tamura makes him into a devilish hardass who always has a trick up his sleeve. One might call him the devil-hero, as he is at times, truly evil. Yet, there’s a real sensitive side to him, not like cuddly, but honorable. For one, he’ll never replace the kicker of his team since he know he’ll comeback. He won’t think twice on supporting his teammates. And, he knows how to party like an animal.
If you love American Football, you'll love this. Many persons dont like Hiruma, but i do, him tactics mad...Love the fact that Sena is Humble, butt monkey all passionate about his catching. The YA HA cheers good.. always bracing for that part. The whole idea is good, "practice makes perfect, one has to face certain challenges to learn and improve" Sena is a good example. Its all about surpassing your obstacles and fighting as a team... GGREEAATTTT!!!!
This anime overall is a great anime. Although, I felt as I got to the 100 episodes it dragged a little but not as draggy as One Piece and Naruto. But in general, This anime was funny, it had morals in it, and reality situations. A little bit of sarcasm but what's life with out a little bit of sarcasm? [: This was a great anime. I love football too, even if you're not a football fan this is a great anime to enjoy.

This was suck a cool Anime, the only things I disliked about it was Monta's voice and the fact that it ended prematurely. I really hope the somehow pick up at the end of the last game and finish it the way the manga did.
If u love anime and a sports fan then this show is for u....the characters are well developed and throughout the show u begin to connect with them and understand the different obstacles they face and the dreams they have. This show focuses on themes such as passion, determination, sportsmanship, friendship. However this anime has some emotional issues more importantly its downright hilarious and exciting with plenty of action and great game scenes.....it make american football just look insanely cool u watch this anime and u get pumped and wanna go out and play
....last but not least the the theme music kicks ass
