Ah, 'member this? Yeah, this series was great; it made RPGs part of the mainstream of gaming and is widely regarded as one of, if not THE most famous RPG series, alongside that of the likes of the Tales games or maybe even Grandia.
Me? Eh, while I might like it as much, it still holds a place in gamers' hearts in some way or another. If you have a personal favorite in this series, whether it be the main series or one of the various spin-offs, go ahead and post, and give us your reasons for why you picked it!

Now me, I've always been a fan of Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers.

This was among one the first games I played from the series. At first, I didn't really expect it to be one of my personal sleeper hits; but the more I played it, the more I loved it! First off, it ditches the somewhat gimmick-y 'active-time' battle system in favor of an Action-Adventure type game that uses the Wii pointer capabilities. It's story was short, but entertaining, allowing the player to ease into this world without hassle, unlike most Final Fantasy games....well, at least, the later ones, anyway.

...............Anyway, the story also benefited from the quirky characters and rather cinematic cutscenes. It's score was great and well-rounded, ranging from mellow to downright rockin'! The world was fully interactive and rather enjoyable to explore, and the bosses were fun, and--oh man, I love this game! Now, to be fair, this game DOES have its short-comings; for instance, the battle system, while solid, doesn't feel like it's using its full potential, you're mostly just throwing things. The story, while still solid, does somewhat lack exposition in some areas, and is even sometimes a teeny-tiny bit boring, but only near the beginning. The characters also suffer from not being the most well-developed, even as funny as they can be. Still, everything that turned me off about Final Fantasy was remedied here; great system, great story, and funny characters. This game is just great!

Thanx 4 reading!

I first got into Final Fantasy VII. Bad translation, easy as fuck until the superbosses fights, but a decent game nonetheless. I like the Nintendo FF classics too, except for 2 since I think it's boring ass shit.

10 & 12 killed my interest in the series. I've not bought any new sequels or spin offs since.

Apart from Deus Ex 0, I boycott most of Square Enix's merchandise.

Pfft final fantasy III ( north american that is ) for the snes was without a doubt the best of the series.. the cast of characters was great you had everything from a ninja to a yeti a truly open world with tons to discover and do. On top of that it had one of the best stories for its generation not to mention a boss you really REALLY wanted to punch in the face.

I have finished every north american FF game and nearly every bonus challenge they provided ( alot of the time those were the reason you had to power level cause the main bosses were rarely that hard ) but the third installment still holds a place in my heart.. close runners up would be FF 2 then 7 then probably crisis core for the psp.

You guys actually reminded me I still have FF XIII to finish got a ways in but just don't find myself as into it I guess.. will have to do that.

Awww... but that means you haven't played Type-0! I think with the introduction of that game,
SE might be able to redeem themselves..

Hmm, my favorite FF game would have to be VIII. This game was not as popular as VII And seemed to get a lot of bad reviews yet I found the story line absolutely amazing. Squall can get a little bit annoying at times but his character seems to build so much since the beginning. Overall, I find the FF series to be my favorite series of games thus far. Well with the exception of XIII, that's when the series died off in my opinion.

Definitely VIII for me. Sure, the story is a bit of a mess, but the music and setting were perfect. I feel it gets a lot of hate because of the Draw system, but I thought it was a nice change. I loved stocking up on spells.

I'm one of the few who aren't on the hating-new-Final-Fantasy bandwagon, and I enjoyed most of the games that some fans have whined about for years (FFX-2, FFXII, FFXIII, FFXIII-2 most notably). Honestly, the only Final Fantasy I ever hated was Final Fantasy II, and that was because of the horrible way they approached leveling up characters and equipment.

My favourite in the series is predictable, but I don't care -- VII. I'm also a major fan of Tactics, Crisis Core, VI, VIII, IX, and X.

Comparing old/new games is comparing apples and oranges. Personally, my all time favorite was VI. I felt that it had the best characters, best story, and the best villain. But I also like most of the other games in the series as well. I understand why people hate on XIII, but I still enjoyed the characters and story, regardless of the linearity of the game.

My favorite is 8. It was the first one I played, and I like the setting more than any of the other games.

Me too. It was my first FF, the first one I've come close to beating, and the one I've replayed the most. I haven't actually beaten it yet, sadly I left it on hold on my back log of games. Weird thing is the first FF I finished was X-2, then IX, then X. XIII and XIII-2 were ok for me. I don't hate them, but I certainly don't like the direction they're going in.

I didn't like 13 much just because it lacked that FF feel (I.e., towns to explore and freedom). 13-2 was a bigger improvement but with tedious parts (artefact finding). Lightning Returns hasn't caused much excitement here.
