Overview
Golgo 13 is described as a mystery man of undetermined origin, possibility being at least part Japanese, who takes any assignment for any employer (it has been said he has worked for the CIA and the KGB) as long as the right price is given and will always fulfill his contracts, even if he has two or more opposing contracts at the same time. He is an uncanny sharpshooter, with near 100% accuracy and capable of lethal trick shooting, and regularly uses a customized, scoped M-16 rifle in his assassinations. He also is a heavy smoker of cigars.

In 2008 an anime TV series was made for Golgo 13. Unlike previous Golgo 13 anime releases, this one is more faithful to the manga by Takao Saito, which has been running in Japan for since 1968.
The main character, Duke Togo (aka Golgo 13) is the most famous sniper in the world. He is from Japan, and never shows any emotion. It usually takes about $4 million to hire him, but he always succeeds. His criteria for taking a job are not necessarily based on the ethics of it (killing people is rarely ethical), but rather the honesty of the dealings he has with his employer. He doesn't need the money, and he can choose whatever jobs he wants. Very little else is known about him.
Although sometimes he's hired to shoot other thing, he's usually hired to kill people. Many times the police will know he is the one who did it, but Golgo 13 always outwits them. Usually it is because the sniper shot he makes is so impossible, that no one would believe he could do it.
There are very few recurring characters in the anime. In fact, probably only Golgo 13, and sometimes a guy who modifies guns for him.
Someone hires him to kill someone, or shoot something... and he does it. Sometimes they try to rip him off, and he kills them too. Sometimes they hire a bunch of people to try to kill him... he kills them too. Sometimes the guy he's hired to kill has lots of bodyguard, usually he just snipes the guy from long distance, but if he has to, he'll kill the body guards too.
Sometimes women fall in love with him. Usually he just has sex with them, then they get in the way later and he kills them. He does not seem very sentimental. In fact, it is his practice to hire high priced hookers and have sex with them before going to shoot people, so he'll be relaxed.
This is not a show to watch if you are looking for love triangles, romantic tension, or laughs. The 2008 anime is Golgo 13 in anime form. Despite it sounding very simplistic, it is very well done and something you should try to watch if you can. As far as I know the TV show is not licenced in America. Viz owns the manga rights, and there have been licensed movies in the past.
