The story revolves around three students in the EM3 academic stream, Liu Kok Pin, Terry Khoo and Ang Boon Hock, and their families. Terry, pampered and from a rich family, is an obedient boy, with a domineering mother and businessman father. A gifted artist, Kok Pin's talents are unappreciated by his family — especially his mother, who scolds him over his poor grades, and father, who works as an advertising agent. His father absent, Boon Hock and his mother struggle to make ends meet by running a small wonton noodle stall; as a result, he places high value on loyalty and "manliness" in his friends.
