Ichigo Kurosaki: Not your average high school student

5.0Overall
SPOILER ALERT:
Ichigo Kurosaki.
"Ichi" means Number One and "go" means Protector
Ichigo also means Strawberry

Basic Plot (for those who haven't watched/read Bleach)
A kid who can see spirits spirits for as long as he can remember, Ichigo Kurosaki is at first glance, a 15 year old kid with the gift of seeing/communicating with the dearly departed.
Little does he know that his "gift" is only a small hint of the enormous amount of power stored up inside of him.
His life has been pretty much normal up until his 15th year, with the exception of his mother dying at the age of nine, (leaving him with his trademark scowl and blaming himself for the incident.)
A normal life for Ichigo means getting attacked by his dad every morning, putting up with an overly hyper friend, and getting into fights with the seniors at his school because of his odd colored hair.
But all that changes one fateful night.
Ichigo meets Rukia Kuchiki, a Soul Reaper who's tracking down an evil spirit called a hollow. But while she's explaining about her duties as a Soul Reaper to Ichigo, the two are attacked by a hollow. Rukia realizes that the hollow is after Ichigo's soul, due to his gigantic spiritual pressure (which is odd for a human). But an accident happens and Rukia is injured, made incapable of fighting the hollow.
Knowing they may both be eaten by the hollow, Rukia takes desperate measures and gives her Soul Reaper powers to Ichigo, counting on his high spiritual pressure to save them both. Yet something unexpected happens, and instead of sharing only half of her powers, Ichigo (unknowingly) takes practically all of Rukia's Soul Reaper powers, leaving her stranded in the world of the living and unable to get back to the Soul Society.
Although she manages to guide Ichigo and continue her Soul Reaper duties together (Leading lost souls to find peace and slaying hollows), sharing Soul Reaper powers with a human is a serious crime, and Rukia is tracked down by the Soul Society and sentenced to death.
Although they only spent two months together, Ichigo takes it upon himself to rescue her.
And so begins his long, exciting, painful journey as a Substitute Soul Reaper as he makes his mark on the Soul Society history.

Personality
He may come across slightly grumpy, cross, and cold. But his true personality is more caring, brave, and protective than he'd prefer to show (he likes to act cool). Ichigo may also come across as stupid at times, yet he's just the sort of person to speak whatever comes to his mind, no matter how insensitive or blunt it sounds. He's proven to be quite calculating, especially in battles, always looking for weakness in his foes.
Another good trait is when he's determined/resolved to do a task, there's no stopping him. He'll keep on going, no matter how much pain he's in, no matter what dangers he faces, or how many foes stand before him.
And yes, his greatest fault in his personality his how hot headed he can be. Ichigo gets provoked rather easily, something most of his foes generally take advantage of. But, it's nice to know he isn't perfect and too unreal for us to believe. Which is nice.

Appearence
Ichigo's trademark is probably his spikey orange hair and frown.
He's average height, but looks particularly tall when standing next to Rukia (who's rather short.)
His Soul Reaper kimono is normal compared to other Soul Reapers with the exception of the belt-like thing he uses to carry his huge sword on his back.

Soul Reaper Powers
It's been noted that Ichigo's scariest power is is growth rate and how he's sped through training in days that would take most people years.
He first gains Soul Reaper powers through Rukia, which resulted in an over sized (weak) zanpakuto. When Byakuya broke Ichigo's soul chain and zanpakuto, rendering him normal again (or as normal as he was), Kisuke Urahara helps Ichigo undergo a series of test to regain the powers of a Soul Reaper.
While undergoing a particularly hard test, Ichigo discovers his soul's inner world, where a strange person dwells. His zanpakuto, Zangetsu. Zangetsu tells Ichigo that he's had Soul Reaper powers of his own, even before Rukia ever gave him any. After completing Urahara's tests, Ichigo finally regains Soul Reaper powers and is able to say the name of his zanpakuto. Afterwards, through many battles, he leans how to administer a power attack (getsuga tenshou (heaven shocking lunar fang)), gets lots of experience, and gains a bankai in two days to boot. Rather impressive on how quickly he adapts to this sort of fighting environment.

Hollow Powers/Vizard
During his training with Kisuke Urahara, Ichigo underwent a hollowfication while trying to regain Soul Reaper powers. While he didn't fully turn into a hollow, what was left of the hollow went deep inside him, slowly trying to take over his body. At first, you see evidence of this due to the constant reappearances a hollow mask that saves Ichigo's life twice from fatal blows. Next, while Ichigo is learning about Zangetsu's power, Zangetsu makes him train with his inner hollow (which appears as a mirror image of himself). After that, when Ichigo's about to be killed by Byakuya, his inner hollow takes control while a mask forms. His inner hollow appears to be on the insane side, lusting for blood, always smiling, and extremely powerful.
Although Ichigo manages to fight his inner hollow off, it keeps threatening to take over his body. It eventually gets so bad that Ichigo can hardly fight without starting to lose control. Taking desperate measures, he visit's a group called Vizards, who, like him, all have inner hollows. With the exception that they have control over all their hollows. After training with them and defeating his inner hollow, he gains control over his inner hollow's powers. He masters is hollowfication in his battle with Grimmjow. But he loses control again when he's practically killed by Ulquiorra.

Overall
Ichigo Kurosaki is a very interesting anime person, one I enjoy reading/watching.
He is perhaps, one of my favorite characters. I hope this review was helpful. (even though it didn't quite seem like a review)
Thanks for reading.

Ichigo is the main character of the anime series Bleach. Ichigo Kurosaki has special powers where he can turn into a hollow. He is strong and determined, and grows through out the series. He is a well thought out character and is well drawn.
