Kampfer's Pros and Cons

I've just got to get one thing off my chest, towards all those who review things like; "Avoid this anime", "It's totally crap" and all that, what gives you the right to say so? Yes it may be true however some people like these "crap" animes. By all means give your opinions, and tell us about it but refrain from giving hints that would put off the viewer. A review in my opinion is an overview of something's pros and cons and not disadvertisement.

Introduction
Now on to Kampfer. I loved the storyline however to me it seemed to short. And to the reviewers that said that the storyline didn't move until episodes later, I agree with reason. Yes it took quite a bit for the story to move on, and I think that it could have been longer. For me, the storyline if performed correctly by the hands of someone like Saki, could have rivalled many harem/fantasy animes, I am not saying it would have beaten them though.

Characters
The characters are all quite similar to characters I have seen before. And the Entrails Animals concept seemed quite good but I think that Episode 12 could have been replaced with something that didn't include body swaps. Episode 12 left me very disappointed. The Student Council President Shizuku Sango reminded me of Takako from Otome wa boku ni Koishteru because of her proudness of being the President, the serious attitude and the fact that she distanced herself from people. Others may disagree but it is my opinion. Akane Mishima was the typical shy but willing library girl, thinking of her infactuation with Natsuru as nothing but an unrequited love at first. And of course Mikoto Kondo was your run-of-the-mill childhood friend, who expectedly likes the protagonist as well. Kaede Sakura disappointed me because of the fact that she was the antagonist and because in Episode 12 she seemed to forget the fact that Natsuru, Akane, Kondo and Shizuku knew that she was the antagonist. Natsuru was your same old oblivious character, who is stuck in the one-girl-one-love drive (only being in love with one girl), and the female Natsuru was pretty much the same which helped give it authenticity. But what bothered me is the voice actress, with Natsuru's voice actor actually being an actress, it wouldn't have made a difference if they had gotten two voice actors, one for the male Natsuru and the other for the female. The supporting characters did have some life however I don't think much thought was put into them which is easily overlookable.

Music/OP&ED
I must say, the music fit the anime quite well. The opening was great in matching the acutal storyline of the anime but the animation seemed to only fit the first few episodes. On the episode after Rika's arrival they could have made a new animation but I suppose their budget couldn't do anything. The ending however seemed a bit too rushed, they could have taken or even toned down the shaking of Kaede and Natsuru.

Storyline
The Storyline is quite good and it is maintained quite well as well for a Gender-Bender anime. I agree with the fact that Gender-Bender animes are rigorously difficult to perform unless some form of fantasy is implemented. Overall I think they could have prolonged the anime a bit more with the help of including just a tad more colors, maybe Yellow to fill in the Primary Colour theme?

Overall it is quite good and I loved it. It is an anime worth at least trying.

Avoid this muck totally.

If E stands for ecchi and H stands for hentai then Kampfer will rank in between at G - Going too far with fanservice and being too lenient to take it further.Perhaps just few notches away from a certified hentai. Now,please don't judge my bad attempt to properly give an objective review of Kampfer,I've probably torn my pillow apart during the torment. It would be excruciatingly painful to watch Kampfer until its very end if you are not in the switch-off mood.I don't even know what foolishness inside me triggered the thought to watch Kampfer and actually continue.

From the start,it is crystal clear that Kampfer hauled a bounty of fanservice to divide with us and that everything, the characters and the plot, will be servilely revolving around this theme. Not that the plot was fantastic or of any sort,it briefly describe the purpose of these Kampfer stuffs, its factions, about the moderators and even proclaiming its involvement with the entire universe.Sounds grandiose enough but take a closer look,it merely was a bunch of bishoujo who were die-hard fans of Sailor Moon. They've been waiting for this very day for a long time and the time when Natsuru, our male lead, suddenly transformed to a girl,it is the time when the girls' dreams finally come true.Or so it seems when it turned from mahou shoujo/fanservice actions to comedy/fanservice fillers.

It was only up to the last quarter of the 12 episodes when Kampfer starts to move on with its story, only to be shattered during episode 11 and totally discarded away the following episode because of christmas (I guess).Mind you, that was the last episode. You cannot be serious. To be honest, there was actually mild suspense and excitement built up before the orchestral music in episode 11 was played but damn...

Edit-Wait,what was I saying. Was there even any story?

I'll go straight to the character cast of Kampfer, they were awful and one-dimensional beyond words with the exception of Shizuku who is probably one of the few reasons that I even gave a damn to continue watching. And when you know that the only male character of the show was voiced by a female, something must be wrong.Akane despite her pristine looks, had her good share of adult novels.Mikoto's presence was superfluous to me.And Sakura has got to be one of the most silly villian ever made.Hell if you possess such godlike power, then use them earlier and give us a show! With quite a bunch of otaku references used, why wasn't there Code Geass? Lelouch would have been crying for those power.

In that regard,Kampfer does horribly well to make weak characters appear almighty. The 4 girls during the last minute of episode 10,you know what I mean. You thought they are gonna kick everyone's butt but guess what they couldn't even deal with a flame that Charmander would be ashamed of. Secondary characters are even more inferior when we have animals like the Chairman,Vice Chairman and Treasurer gracing the screen.

Best character: Shizuku, she's the only one that passed.Seriously.

But wait, that wasn't even close to the highlight.Look at their arsenal of voice actresses,it totally reeks of moe and can you even believe it,the amount of big guns they hired to voice for occult-looking puppets that talks. And boy oh boy, where on earth can you find dialogues that goes "You freaking Tamura Yukari soundalike $%^&." But I will sincerely bow down to the efforts of the seiyuus who tried their best to bring Kampfer some attention despite facing such an outrageous script.

Nevertheless, its absurd ED had proven something as well, not in the good way of course. With Natsuru and Sakura shaking their body that frenziedly,it is of no doubt one will begin questioning whether they had wasted their precious time on Kampfer. The OP is forgettable.

The only one thing that Kampfer did remarkably well was producing good-looking characters and woosh, they are hot.Coincidentally, the animation column went missing.Oh well.

What is Kampfer trying to be?Comedy? No,it didn't make me laugh one bit. Action? No,more like a half-arsed effort. Parody? Fail. If they are going to cast aside the story and deploy everything for fanservice then takes it further, follow the likes of Girl Bravo. Why was Kampfer even being adapted to anime in the first place?

If all harem animes are going to trail the footsteps of animes like Sekirei or RosarioVampire or even DearS and now Kampfer,I will be sure to myself not to watch one again, ever. But compared to Akikan,Kampfer is saint.I didn't even last the first episode of Akikan. It was probably the down of my luck to watch Kampfer so do yourself a favor and avoid this muck.Feeling bored?Get your friends to watch Kampfer.Chances are,he will thank you and she will hate you.You might get a slap as bonus, how lucky.

/Will edit after a few month, this was really badly written during the furies of pique.

Edit (rant)-I retract what I said,I won't edit this already. This sarcastic review is as fair as it can be,nobody reads it properly or actually even read it.If you don't want spoilers then don't read reviews beforehand (not like Kampfer has any).If the anime is a waste of time to me then of course in my review,I wouldn't ask anybody to view it.To the friend above, most English words including 'review' are ambiguous...whatever...to each their own. What rights you say?The "write a review" hyperlink is up there for everybody in CR.We are anime fans so no hard feelings.

Gender-bender with a cherry on top

I probably don't have to tell you that gender-bender is quite a tricky plot in itself, it consists out of complex clothing and behavior issues, smacking all logical sense out of delirious members who take your gender for granted, and more. The context of this genre is simple yet quite incredible as a female student, for example, goes to a school in her most masculine disguise and fools everyone in believing she is a boy, a handsome one at that.

Kampfer is roughly based on the same idea, only slightly different. You will quickly come to notice that: there is magic thrown in that is somehow capable of changing one's gender, a cute girl will occasionally shift personality and shoot her gun at people, even when it doesn't really benefit anyone, another cute girl will stalk and sexually harass a girl at best, there is a female chairman who clearly knows her way around knives, etc. Really, I don't want to spoil all your fun by revealing their secrets.

The characters may be somewhat stereotypical, but I really think you will enjoy each appearance as you go. While some series get more boring as more characters join the show that managed to involve you so before, it still stays that way with Kampfer. Each character is equally interesting, although some may be more appealing to others, depending on what you like or dislike in a character.

The fight sequences in the series are both exciting and often humorous, although it isn't clear why they actually fight. It's a bit like Mai Hime, where there is this I-think-I-just-have-to-fight-you thought going on. Jealousy and obsession are obvious reasons that start a fight in Kampfer, but most characters in the series aren't that simple-minded as not to have a compromise and lay their down their weapons once or twice.

If you like gender-bender, yuri, ecchi, and harem in a twisted way, then this series is made for you. This is the same book, but this time with a shiny and flashy new cover you can enjoy for minutes on end.

i love the kampfer series and so would love to read the manga
