Kanae Kotonami

Kanae Kotonami is a young aspiring actress. She is trying to get into acting with L.M.E. She meets Kyoko Mogami at a rehersal and they both end up in the lowly LOVE ME section at L.M.E. Both young women are treated like outsiders by the other actresses at L.M.E. Thus they constantly have to prove that they belong there. Kanae has a lot of acting talent but doesn't put all of herself into her roles. At first Kanae dislikes Kyoko. Kyoko persists in courting Kanae's friendship and eventually succeeds.

Kanae is generally aloof. One of the things Kanae and Kyoko have in common is that neither of them have any real friends. Kanae has wanted to be an actress since she was a child and performed in school productions. She encountered Erika Koenji in school. Erika was jealous of Kanae and used her family's influence to get her banned from acting in school plays. The two met up again at L.M.E. and Erika tried to use her influence again. Kanae was losing hope of ever succeeding but Kyoko inspired her to stand up to Erika. Kyoko and Kanae help to push each other along.

Where Kyoko is subject to wild mood swings, Kanae is even tempered. Kyoko pursues friendship with Kanae with great enthusiasm. It takes a while to soften her heart. I takes time before Kanae realizes that she and Kyoko are friends.
