Living Death or Faith (불신지옥), Distrust Hell (literal title), Possessed (Alternative title) is a South Korean horror film written by director Lee Yong Joo-I. The film was released August 12, 2009.
SYNOPSIS
A college student named Hee Jin (Nam Sang Mi) returns home when her 14-year-old sister So Jin (Shim Eun Kyung) goes missing. Her mother, a fanatic churchgoer, resorts to prayer and refuses to work with the lazy police to find So Jin. Meanwhile, a neighbor commits suicide and leaves a will for So Jin, and Hee Jin hears rumors that her sister had been possessed. The whereabouts of So Jin becomes increasingly elusive and the dead neighbor begins appearing in Hee Jin's dreams.
21.4 million tickets were sold, which basically accounts for 43.2 percent of South Korea's 49.5-million population. This is the third time that over 20 million tickets were sold in a single month. In January 2006 My Boss, My Teacher among other films attracted 20.39 million audience members and, in August 2007, D-War and May 18 were the main catalysts in bringing in 21.56 million moviegoers.
However, the two films are continuing to dominate the box office for six weeks as recently released Korean films are failing to attract audiences (A Million, Living Death and Yoga). There were complaints about the lack of variety and novelty.
