This is an anime that was definitely made for an older audience but not in the sense that it is explicit. To be truthful, I very much think that violent crimes that did undergo in this series was very tastefully portrayed for the viewers. So if you came for blood fight scenes then you've come to the wrong place. Instead the storyline requires an somewhat active thinker to be watching because I think the writer's intention was to get the viewer to make his/her own assumption about certain mysteries. Not everything will be explained and P.S. not everything character will get a chance to explain themselves, hence why I titled this "Like cliffhangers?".

Speaking of characters, there were MANY characters in this epic of an anime. I've noticed that a lot of them help shape the viewer's opinion on the main protagainst or main antagonist, which makes the viewer WANT to figure out the many mysteries in the anime however I felt like it was its biggest weak point too. A lot of minor characters were not memorable to say the least and are easily forgotten. Even if they were memorable, these minor characters don't contribute a lot a side from demonstrating what kind of character Dr. Tenma or Johan through contrast. It's like, "Hey we get it now, Tenma is the big brilliant boy-scout and Johan is just as messed-up as the Joker." What I mean to say is, sure these minor characters are great however they used up a lot of screen time and I honestly believe this anime could have been condensed to 30 episodes rather than 74.

As for the animation, what can I say? It's very simple and makes its point. If you're looking for good-looking bishonen men or cutesty eye-candy women, you're surely gonna be disappointed watching this. I think the writer did this intentionally because he wanted to the focus on the storyline rather than on a character's unholy fashion choice.

Overall, I do recommend this anime series to anyone who has A LOT of time to spare and enjoy a very intense mystery. It's one of my top ten favourite animated series despite all its flaws because it was just that GREAT as a thriller and I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

The storyline for this anime was very intricate and well thought out. That's the main selling point of this series. It was really a work of art, and deserves to be one of my favorites.

The joyride of following Dr. Tenma is fascinating. His marriage, his job, being a foreigner and fugitive. It's all very exciting, especially when you throw in Nazis, a mastermind serial killer, and Mcgyver-esque medical operations. In Dr. Tenma's world, he is the protagonist, and the entire universe is almost conspiring against him; causing him to question his own morality, and rise to a great responsibility.

Another "Wow!" factor in this series is the ending animation. Creepy. Just creepy. The creepiest thing I've ever seen in an anime.

The music was not all that amazing. There were times where it could have made everything more intense, but I did get creeped out several times when I did take note of it.

Watch this. Give it a chance. Be freaked out.

Can believe there isnt a REVIEW?!!! Anime is amazing horror anime!!! Its so twisted and filled with suspense! Kind of a long series tho, they should have worked on better animation; but then again the old anime texture boosts the horror of this anime. A MUST SEE FOR ANYONE!! Deals alot with philosophy and personal identity, so it makes your brain think!! KEEP THE POPCORN GOINGG!!!
