Do you hate animes where the characters make stupid out of character decisions? In other words do things that logically they wouldn't do thereby making you feel angry and that the behavior is unrealistic?
Well this is one of those annoying animes.
It starts off well. A beautiful heroine with a hidden power to save the world is discovered. Over the first few episodes she "collects" a team of hunky guys with special powers to support her, she gets recognized by the Leaders as potentially the future Queen. Nice character development so far. Other than the unrealistic notion that the rich nobleman they are living with has no maids or cooks, it looks promising.
Then the series starts to disintegrate. Instead of continuing to build the team, strengthen powers against the evolving enemy, they basically sit around and drink tea while some rival organization fights the monsters. (Can you imagine something like that happening in Code Geass, Naruto, Bleach etc. ... no freaking way.)
Even when the heroine tells one of the guys she wants to become able to protect herself (a nice opening to teach her combat moves) the guy simply reaffirms his pledge to protect her ... LAME.
Then the final straw has to be in the last 2 episodes where almost all the characters do stupid things that are really out of character. It feels as if the director and scriptwriters forced the characters do stupid things to fit the desired plot. Any accomplished author/director knows that the story develops from the characters and not the other way around.
There is so much potential with this anime, a remake with a better director and scriptwriter could make this really good. But as it stands watch it for eye candy and be prepared to feel annoyed with the characters.

Overall
I just finished this anime, just this season, now. Throughout watching this, I realized just how much potential it had through storyline. I realized that it could be an amazing anime. I also realized while watching it, I kept getting this nagging feeling that it's nowhere near as good as it should have been.
I concluded that the problem was, and don't get me wrong, this aspect of anime is very important, that they focused almost solely on Character Development, not the plot.
In the beginning of the anime (1-4 eps. in), I knew: Most the characters, though lacking background on most. The enemy *thanatos*. And about the purifiers and a little about the Artifact Foundation.
At the end of the anime, I looked back at what I learned. I realized it boiled down to: The characters, in more detail, and their backgrounds a little. That's it. That is ALL I learned from spending so long watching this entire season. What does this mean?
Well, with the exception of the LAST TWO EPISODES they practically portray the character development as the main aspect of the anime, and make the storyline seem like a minor side-show.
Now that my ranting's away: more...organized review.
Storyline
The only redeeming features of this show. If the storyline were an ounce worse, I would have never watched this. It was hope that they'd eventually progress the storyline and plot at a decent pace, and focus a little less on character development, that drove me to watch to the end. In the first season, let me say, it gets nowhere. The last 2 episodes and 1 or 2 scattered ones are the only ones really even remotely related to the plot. It could be better in the second season, but let me say if it is not, I will not be watching it.
...I hate seeing such potential...wasted.
Music
I'm sorry, but the music in this anime is horribly placed. The music itself if decent enough, but even most of the dark or exciting scenes had jumpy happy music, or music that seemed far too soft though still sad to fit the moment. I had half a mind you watch the anime on silence. I understand that this is a Male Harem Anime, so it's mostly aimed toward the female populace, but it's going a bit too far doing this.
Characters
The characters were well done. Angelique was pretty much as expected. Not ALL the guys were happy smile smile joy joy people; Lein was a relatively dark person, and Huuga was rather calm and collected. In other words; the characters had a decent variety, and that is key for anime. My only wish was that the cliche lines like "We must protect her!" would be said all at once by all of them instead of each individually. It almost killed me watching 4 cliche men say the same cliche line in different words at most 5 seconds apart from the others. Otherwise though, character was good. They focused on characters far too much though, so the fact that even this is nowhere near the best character assortment I've seen disturbs me.
Animation
It's pretty well done. I mean, all the main characters have a soft and graceful or energetic feel to movement. The random civilians have animation about the same as most animes, and the 2ndary characters (dont have names but arent civilians: Artifact Foundation Soldiers)
all have a rigid "soldier-like" animation. All in all, good, but no more so than average.
Final Statement
To be honest, I feel I wasted much of my time watching this. Perhaps it's good and not just my taste, who knows.
I would only recommend this to others who have no more other anime to watch.

I'd had my eye on this series for quite some time now on here, even before I became a pay-monthly Anime Member, and decided to start watching it a couple of weeks ago, and I tell you now, I never looked back on nor regretted doing so since! It's just such a beautifully made anime in every sense of the word, and every episode left me wanting more! Thoroughly & highly recommended by me to everyone & anyone who enjoys this type of anime as it's just pure escapism!
I only wished at the time that it was longer in episode length, until I discovered happily that it had a second series aswell!

At first when I saw and read the title "Neo Angelique" I got curious, an Angel? thats the first question poop into my mind. Then, I watch it. I can't seem to stop watching it... I like the way the animator made about the character of Angelique they made her beautiful and mature. The story line was a fantastic. And the Music; the opening and the ending music was beautiful... I love this anime...

There are a couple of things that I would like to say about this anime after I watched both it and the second season.
Let's start with the positives. The OST for this anime is beautiful - as a musician and a picky listener, I loved it. The art is just as wonderful - it's rare to find good animation with good, high quality art.
On the other hand, there are a few issues that come to mind while watching the anime. Characters have very little depth, and while the plotline is written so that every character has a mystery to them, it doesn't make them that much more interesting. The female lead is quite irritating - she's too perfect to be human, and too innocent for anyone to connect to. She's quite unrealistic, and yet somehow manages to fix everything in everyone's life. She's also one of the only female characters, and in that there is not enough variety. Sure, there are very many bishonen, but when there's only one female, it gets annoying. Another thing to be disliked - by those looking for a romantic plotline, anyway - is the lack of any romantic attachment between any character. There are multiple hints from any male character that they like Angelique, and yet not a single one of them actually acts on their feelings - they're all 'too focused on getting rid of the Thanatos'.
Even with all the negatives, the anime was still a good pick to watch. There were multiple scenes that made me laugh, and it definitely got rid of the boredom of summer days in front of the computer with nothing at all to do.
Just a little thing - Pretear has a similar idea behind it, and much more romantic involvement. At time, I felt like this was somewhat of a bad copy of Pretear.

As far as reverse harems go, this one is not original, in fact it is like pretty much all anime reverse harem series. Think about it though, there are only a handful of reverse harems (Saiunkoku, Ouran host, la corda d'oro and such) and as of yet Fushigi Yugi is the only reverse harem anime I know where a the main character girl chooses her guy. Sure there are preference and hints but nothing concrete. Angelique is not exception.
Angelique herself is a fragile girl that needs constant supervision and someone is always out to harm her. She learns of friendship and hardship and cries rather often. To me this was not very original. Bad aliens try to destory the world, a girl with super powers purifies the baddies. If you can tolerate the fact that originality is not found in ANY of the Angelique series then it is not a bad watch. Frustrating at times that Angelique won't pick a guy but the animation is good and the story is not bad overall. As long as you go into it not expecting too much romantic development (spoiler, there is pretty much nothing) then go for it.

Though I have not watch all the episodes up to date those that I have watch seemed quite acceptable. A girl who has great power but also leans on others is more realistic than an all powerful girl who will save everyone. Though the story itself isn't realistic. It has quite the plot. Many adventures. It is a fun show to watch maybe not the best out there but still worth while. It has good characters and is kind of sad and hysterical all at the same time. Definitely a must watch.

Girl has power to save the world. Girl has four boys to protect her and some others that mill around. Girl tries to save world, doesn't always work.
It's a reverse harem with no romance plot. Just a lot of "everyone mean so much to me" and "we have to protect our important people." Nice animation, pretty men-things to look at, but in general, not a lot going on between characters. The plot's okay, but character relationships are very shallow. It wasn't bad - it was a good use of time watching it, but I'm glad I did not pay any money to see it.
