Overview
Nishikido Ryo often called ryo-chan is a Japanese idol and a performing artist (singer-songwriter, actor and a model) under the Japanese talent agency, Johnny & Associates since 1997.
Ryo-chan was born on the 3rd of November, 1984 in Amagasaki city in Hyogo prefecture. In 2002 he joined Kanjani∞ and in 2003 he joined NEWS. Both groups officially debuted in 2004. Ryo-chan began his acting career in the drama "Binbo Doshin Goyocho" in 1998, he won "the best newcomer" award for his role in NHK's family drama "Teruteru Kazuko", Until now ryo-chan had been playing supporting roles in many dramas such as, 1 Liter of Tears, Attention Please, Last Friends, Ryusei no Kizuna and Orthros no Inu. Thus he has been awarded as "the best supporting actor" for his roles in Last Friends, Ryusei no Kizuna and Orthros no Inu.
He performed his solo live "Ryo Nishikido Live" on 5~9 January 2006 in both Yokohama arena and Osaka-jo hall.

History


Early Life:

Born in Amagasaki city in Hyogo Prefecture in November 3rd 1984, raised in Kadoma city in Osaka, Nishikido is the third child of his parents. His father from Amakusa city in Kumamoto Prefecture and his mother from Kagoshima Prefecture. He has two older brothers and a younger sister, and also 3 nieces and nephews from his second brother's marriage and also his sister's marriage.He auditioned for the agency and passed together with fellow kanjani8 member's Yasuda Shota and Okura Tadayoshi in September 6th 1997. Also Maruyama Ryuhei was at the audition too. As a result, these members have have been friends for a long time during their Kansai Jr days even before kanjani8 was formed. He was one of the Kansai Jr who was invited to work in Tokyo. In February 23rd 2000 Nishikido and Higashiyama Noriyuk released the single Secret Agent Man with "secret agent" as the
name but he wasn't in the CD cover.

Career after Debuting:

In September 2003 Nishikido and eight other boys from Johnny's Juniors had been chosen to form the group NewS and they released the single news nippon. The group had been formed to cheer for Japan's Women's Volleyball team during the games held in 2003. NewS made it's formal debut on May 12th 2004 with the single Kibou ~Yell!~ (and in the same year kanjani8 debuted with their single Naniwa Iruha Boshi) Since it's debut, NewS has had all consecutive #1 singles on the oricon ranking chart. To date , all 11 singles and albums have debuted at the #1 spot. As a result he was the first Johnny to be in two groups permenantly.
NewS, however, had been temporarily disbanded and all group activities had been put on hold after the suspension of two of its members, who had both been accused of underage drinking.
He preformed his solo live "Ryo Nishikido Live" in January 2006. in both Yokohama Arena and Osaka-jo Hall.
Nishikido is also a songwriter having written songs for himself, including "mouten", "potential", "stereo" , "code", "ordinary" and "half down". He can also play the guitar, harmonica and piano.

Acting Career:

Nishikido made his acting debut in 1998 in the drama Binbo Doshin Goyocho at the age of 14, He won his first award as the Best Newcomer award in the 7th Nikkan Sports Drama Grand Prix for his role in NHK family drama Teruteru Kazuko which was aired from September 29th 2003 to March 27th 2004, he also appeared in some dramas such as his most famous role of Asou Haruto in 1 Litre of Tears and also in the three hour special of the series which was aired in April 5th 2007, also along side Ueto Aya he played the role of Nakahara Shota a flight engineer in Fuji TV Drama Attention Please wich was aired from April 18th to June 27th 2006.
On April 10th 2008 Nishikido co-stared Nagasawa Masami, Ueno Juri, Eita and Mizukawa Asami in the drama Last Friend as the DV guy Oikawa Souske, in which he abuses her girlfriend Michiru played by Masami.
Masami Nagasawa, who played opposite Nishikido as Michiru, stated that "his type of acting is more difficult than mine. He also worries about me being hit accidentally."
Sousuke commits suicide at the end of the series because he felt he could not give Michiru the happiness she found with the ShareHouse members. He writes her a letter, explaining his actions and how he understood that the only way to set Michiru free was to kill himself. A special was aired on June 26th 2008, consisting of a recap and some new additional scenes. As a result of his hard working to portray Souske's character , Nishikido won the Best Supporting Actor for the 12th Nikkan Sports Drama Grand Prix, 57th Television Drama Academy Awards and the 18th TV LIFE Annual Drama Awards.
On July 2008 it was announced that Nishikido will be starting in a new drama based on the popular novel by the famous mystery writer Keigo Higashino with the same name "Ryusei no Kizuna" with Ninonomiya Kazunari, Toda Erika & him as the main cast, in which they played the role of siblings "Ariake 3", the Drama started airing in TBS on October 17th till December 19th with only 10 Episodes, for this drama Nishikido won the Best Supporting Actor in the 18th TV LIFE Annual Drama Awards and the 12th Nikkan Sports Drama Grand Prix.
