Phantasmagoria was formed in November of 2004 and their first single 'Material Pain' was released in Shoxx Magazine on 21 December, 2004. The following day they also released their first Maxi-single, 'Moonlight Revival'. The band appeared on the February 2004 cover of a well-known Visual Kei magazine, 'Cure', only one month after officially forming, which makes them one of the fastest indies bands to appear on the cover of a magazine.
Matoi joined Phantasmagoria in February 2005 as a support drummer to take the place of Shion (熾苑), who had left the band. He became an official member of Phantasmagoria on March 23, 2005. Their first ever one-man (according to Kisaki) and first American concerts were on 21 and 22 October, 2005, at Oni-con in Houston, Texas. Months later, on 26 March, the band played their first Japanese one-man.
Bassist Kisaki is the Executive of Under Code Production, a Visual Kei indie label located in Osaka, Japan. Previously, he was the Executive of the indies label, Matina. Rame (bassist of Vidoll) teasingly began referring to the band as "Mago-Mago". (Mago means "grandchildren".) The name is now used by fans as well.
Kisaki revealed that Phantasmagoria will be moving to Tokyo in mid-2007. Matoi and Iori decided to leave on 23 February, 2007, because their health cannot handle the change in environment (the band is currently based in Osaka).
In addition to this, due to Matoi's foot injury that he has had for quite some time, he has decided to leave the band instead of "dragging them down". Kisaki said that when Matoi gets better, he is absolutely welcome to rejoin Phantasmagoria.
On the day of their departure, Phantasmagoria will be putting all band activities on hold for the time being, but they are not disbanding.
