After getting up the willpower to put the game down and write this review I have to say that prototype is with out a doubt the 360's answer to Infamous.
Lets start off with the visuals. Prototype gives players a fully rendered version of Manhattan to play around in and boys is it HUGE(Think Spider man 2 but way better looking). Alex Mercer himself is very well designed both in his looks and the manner in which he moves. The environment is fairly interactive, Alex Kicks up dirt and as-fault as he runs and leaves craters and dents when he lands after a high jump. When played in standard definition the game looks great, but in high-def...well lets just say that blood splatter never looked so good.
As far as music is concerned Prototype comes up a little short with so pretty basic tunes that you would expect from an action game. However the sound design is great, from the screaming of the denizens of the big apple as crush them under your mighty Elbow drop of doom, to the radio chatter of you military foes as they desperately call for back-up, everything sounds pleasing and the voice acting in story scenes is top notch.
When it comes to game play, this is where prototype really shines. The main campaign takes you through Alex's bloody rampaging quest for the truth, pretty basic revenge plot but prototype really seemed to excel when it came to keeping the action fresh and engaging. One mission you'll be sneaking into a military base disguised as a marine and in the next you'll be hanging on to the side of a helicopter as they frantically try to shake you off before you totally jack the thing. However the fast pace of the narrative leads to it only being about 8 or 9 hours long. But with a host of side missions to play and upgrades to collect I dare you to only play it once. Combat is fast and intuitive with well over 50 different moves and abilities to be acquired. With the shear number of powers to collect it may get a little overwhelming for a casual gamer so let me just give you a warning "This is a Hardcore Game of the highest Caliber" That being said one of my main concerns was the game getting repetitive after the story was over... and then Alex started to run full speed up a building and I new I was going to be fine. With new game+, over 25 side missions and an addictive free play mode Prototype has burst my Skeptic Bubble and run full speed into my heart. Tell your loved ones goodbye because you won't be seeing them for a while.
