Rabbani

RABBANI is an award-winning nasyid group that consists of the most members, previously 7 now 9 altogether (plus 2 musicians). They are Mohamad Asri Ibrahim as the lead vocal, together with Mohd Asri Ubaidullah, Ahmad Shafie, Zulkiflee Azman, Mohd Loqman Abd. Aziz, Rithauddeen Yaakob, Azadan Abd Aziz, Nazrul Azhar Tamrin and Mohd. Afandi Hishahbudin.

Rabbani, which means 'yang soleh', came to the attention of Malaysian music lovers in 1997 when they released their self-titled debut album. At a time when nasyid songs ruled the mainstream market, their sales for that album shot up to 90,000 units.

They went on to release 8 more albums in a span of 5 years - Arah… Dari Mana… Ke Mana… (1998), Muhammad Ya Habibi (1999), Ramadhan Remix - compilation (1999), Pergi Tak Kembali (2000), Iqrar 1421 - compilation (2000), Intifada (2001), Aman (2002) and Qiblat (2002).

All of Rabbani's songs and performances received amazing response from people from all walks of life and all age groups. Thus, it came as no surprise when Rabbani managed to be the most popular nasyid group in Malaysia for a few years running.

The members of Rabbani were bold enough to incorporate modern music into their nasyid songs, instead of making music that is merely dominated by the sound of percussion instruments. They have succeeded in creating an interesting fusion of contemporary nasyid music, appealing to a larger (and younger) audience.
