Lee Jinki (이진기) born December 14, 1989 (1989-12-14) (age 19), better known by his stage name Onew (온유). He is the leader and oldest member in the group. He was discovered at the "2006 S.M. Academy Casting".[19] Onew collaborated with former Jewelry member, Lee Ji-Hyun for her song "Vanilla Love".[20]

Kim Jong Hyun (김종현) born April 8, 1990 (1990-04-08) (age 18), commonly known as Jong Hyun and nicknamed Bling Bling, is the main vocalist in the group. He was discovered at the "2005 S.M. Casting System".[19] Before debuting with Shinee, Jong Hyun sang a duet, "Wrongly Given Love" (交错的爱), with Zhang Liyin for her debut Chinese album I Will.[19]

Kim Kibum (김기범) born September 23, 1991 (1991-09-23) (age 17), Better known by his stage name Key, is one of the two rappers in the group,[19] his nickname is The Almighty Key. He was discovered at the "2005 S.M. National Tour Audition Casting".[19] Before debuting with Shinee, Key appeared in Super Junior's movie, Attack on the Pin-Up Boys as an extra.[21]

Choi Minho (최민호) born December 9, 1991 (1991-12-09) (age 17), commonly known as Min Ho, he is the other rapper in group. He was discovered at the "2006 S.M. Casting System".[19] Before debuting with Shinee, Min Ho modeled for Ha Sang Baek's "Seoul Collection F/W 08-09" in March.[13]

Lee Taemin (이태민) born July 18, 1993 (1993-07-18) (age 15), commonly known as Tae Min, he is the youngest member in group. He was discovered at the "2005 S.M. Open Weekend Audition Casting ".

Shinee briefly had a reality show, Shinee's YunHaNam which was hosted by MNet. The show ran from August 8, 2008 to October 16, 2008, with a total of twelve episodes. The main premise of the show was centered around the group going on dates with nunans and at the end of each episode the nunan would chose one member to go on a solo date with. Shinee record a song, "Stand By Me", for the Korean drama adaptation of popular manga series Boys Over Flowers by Yoko Kamio.In addition to promoting Smart, Shinee recorded a song, "Blue Pink Song", to further promote their product.

Not much was known about SHINee, until late May 2008 when articles started to surface online about SM Entertainment's new group.[1][2] The video for "Nunan Neomu Yeppeo (Replay)" was then released on May 22, 2008 which features Victoria Song as the Nunan.[2] Their first mini album on May 23, 2008.[3]

The group's first stage performance was on May 22, 2008 on MNET's M! Countdown.[3] SHINee made their debut television appearance on SBS's Popular Songs on May 25, 2008, performing their promotional single, "Nunan Neomu Yeppeo (Replay)". On June 7, 2008, SHINee participated at the Dream Concert in the Seoul Olympic Stadium along with other high profile Korean stars such as, Epik High, Girls' Generation, TVXQ and the Wonder Girls.[4][5]

On August 23, 2008, SHINee attended MNet's 20's Choice Award 2008 where they won the "Hot New Star" award.[6] SHINee released their full debut album, The SHINee World, on August 28, 2008.[7] The first single released from the album was "산소 같은 너" [Love Like Oxygen], which is a cover of "Show the World" by Martin Hoberg Hedegaard, originally written by the Danish songwriting and production team of Thomas Troelsen, Remee and Lucas Secon.[7] The official music video has been released. On September 18th, 2008, SHINee's "Love Like Oxygen" was the #1 song on M! Countdown. A few days afterwards, SHINee received the mutizen award for "Love Like Oxygen" on SBS Inkigayo. On October 3, 2008, SHINee was awarded the "Asia's Best Newcomer" award at the 5th Asia Song Festival.

SHINee's first reality show, SHINee's YunHaNam (hosted by Mnet), had its first episode broadcasted on August 8, 2008. Each episode is loosely based on the five boys' meeting and date(s) with an older woman (also known as a 'noona', the Korean term used by males to address an older woman). Each episode featured a certain theme, ranging from a school, a theme park, to a movie set. At the end of each (30 minute) episode, the noona picks one of the boys as her choice for a solo date. All boys but Onew were chosen at some point throughout the series. Onew did come close to being chosen in the last episode, though the noona was viewed with distaste by SHINee. The show's final, 12th episode was released on October 16, 2008.

At the Asia Song Festival 2008, SHINee member Key informed fans that SHINee would be releasing a repackaged album, which will include the new songs, "아.미.고" [Amigo], [Forever or Never], and a remix of "사.계.한" [Love Should Go On] from their Mini Album, on the 30th of October. The first promotion for SHINee's new song was held on SBS Inkigayo on October 26, 2008. It is a dance hip-hop song with heavy choreography, similar to that of their song from their first album, "The SHINee World." On October 30 2008 SHINee won the New Icon award. SHINee released their third official music video for their new song, 아.미.고 [Ah.Mi.Go] on November 3rd, 2008. The title is a shortened version of the Korean phrase "아름다운 미녀를 좋아하면 고생한다" (Areumdaun minyeoreul choahamyeon gosaenghanda) which can be translated as "If you meet a beauty, you will suffer", or "If one wants to capture a beautiful woman, they will encounter hardship".

On November 15, 2008 SHINee was nominated as Best Male Rookie at the 10th annual Mnet KM Music Festival, and won over U-Kiss, 2PM, 2AM and Mighty Mouth. On December 10th, 2008, at the 23rd Annual Golden Disk Awards, SHINee won the award for YEPP Newcomer Album, beating out many other boy band nominees. They performed a medley of their songs from over the past few months such as '누난 너무 예뻐 (Replay)', '산소 같은 너' (Love Like Oxygen) and '아.미.고' (Amigo). Also, SHINee contributed to various performances at the end of the year, contributing to SBS's 가요대전 (Pop Battle).
