You know those slice of life animes that really don't have much in the way of a plot or story line but it makes up for that with outstanding characters and great diolog. Well if you like those types of anime then you'll feel right at home with School Days, the touching story of a young high school boy named Makoto who falls in love with a girl who, by some kind of Paradox mirror effect, is blissfully in love with him as well. And then the friend of the two love birds becomes jealouse, depressed, then gets pregnant, and then she gets spiteful, then she gets jealouse again, then she gets all stabby, which makes the other girl get all stabby and all the while makotyo is out whoreing it up with half the student body and kim jong ill watches 2 and a half men with cpt. Crunch........OK may be it's as simple as the name suggests.
From a purely visual stand point this series is outstanding. The animations are smooth and the characters come to life in a very fluid manner. All of the scenory is top notch and is as varied as it is gorgeous, from the halls of the high school to the inside of an adolecent's appartment complex. Even the background characters who play no role other than to take up space look great.
At first I though this series would suffer from a lack luster story and no plot development. I was soon proven wrong as the akward and innocient relationships of these teens opened up and slowly became more then their teenage minds could handle. Every action and peice of diolog waqs well thought out and although the actions didn't seem like they would happen in real life (Taking your ex's severed head with you on a yatch seems like a strange way of moving on to me) but that dosen't stop the story from being gripping and entertaining.
Over all, School Days relies heavily on drama and romance to drive the plot forward. This is not to say that it isn't loaded with funny moments, interesting plot points, great diolog, and wonderfully colorful characters. However the parts that really stuck with me were the parts when the show got creepy (The image of Katsura talking on the phone with the "Your call can not be compleated" person and pretending it was Makoto still haunts my thoughts.) I won't spoil anything else, just trust me when I say that this is well worth watching.
