Serial Experiments Lain is an anime that is hard to measure how good it actually is. The only reason that this anime is considered the best of its genre, is because there is nothing that really falls into the same genre.
Story
The FIRST thing you see in the first episode is a girl commiting scuicide. Suddenly, some of the girls at the school begin to get e-mails from Chisa(suide girl), saying that she had no more reason to live, talking as if it is overrated. Lain, who has hardly touched her computer, also gets the e-mail, but unlike the others, who find it as a prank, decides to reply. Sure enough, they begin to have a small conversation. It is here that Lain begins to suddenly grow an interest in computers, and in about no time at all, her entire room is decorated with 8foot tall computer towers, wires and tubes.
Review
If you cant stand having questions when whatching a movie or tv, then this anime is not for you. If you cant sit patiently, this anime is not for you. However if you can stand the scilence of the first few episodes and not kill yourself over the questions, you are in for an incredible treat. Serial Experiments Lain mixes questions on modern scientific development with philosophy, theology, and paranormal phenomena. The anime is both intense, and sometimes stressfull. If you like the psychological kind of shows that twist one's morals and thoughts, THIS IS THE ANIME FOR YOU
4.5/5 (but honestly it wouldn't matter what i rank. you'r oppinion will be different.)
The reason this anime is so hard to review, is because I personally don't want to say too much that can spoil anything.
