Everything about Shounen Onmyouji, from the characters, to the plot, to the ending, was absolutely amazing. I fell in love with the story from the start. Masahiro, a young boy who aspires to be a greater onmyouji (spell-caster) than his well-known grandfather, Abe No Seimei, fights along side one of the 12 Gods, Guren, to defeat the demons of the underworld. Although it may seem like this was just another magical plot, Shounen Onmyouji had plenty of twists and jaw-dropping action scenes that left you begging for more. I loved everything about this show. My most favorite part of this anime, though, had to be the characters who were all undeniably smooth and admirable, from the regular people in the human world to the supernatural beings. The 12 Gods intensely reminded me of Fushigi Yuugi and the way they fought was quite similar as well. And in addition to a breath-taking story, the innocent and sweet romance between Masahiro and the Princess of the Empire, Akiko, was beautifully done. Although romance was not a strong component of the plot, it nonetheless played a very special role. The ending of Shounen Onmyouji was incredibly bitter-sweet, but you eventually come to realize that it's the only kind of ending that fits. I'm so pleased that I watched Shounen Onmyouji. It quickly became a personal favorite and I intensely recommend this anime to all who love a good action-packed series with characters that will really blow you away. Masahiro and Guren are truly the greatest!

By far one of the most interesting animes I've ever watched. The plot is amazing; the art is just even more amazing; the idea is just.. wow. Yep; wow. I don't even know how to describe it. It's just really amazing!! I haven't watched this in a while, so my review might not be as accurate.

The story starts off with a young boy; grandson of a famous man who is now.. retired. That boy "has no talent," and is often looked down upon. Because of that, he does not care too much about the world around him-- until he meets Guren.

Guren has been protecting him since he was of a young age; and they are a great pair of partners. Guren transforms into a form of a mononoke, or youkai, to accompany him wherever he chooses to go.

And... they pretty much just; I guess; save the world? From enemies, I suppose.

What I love about this anime is that it is willing to take in the main character; the hero or heroine; and create a scene where they are actually in the brink of meeting Death. Yes, I'm not quite sure why, but it creates suspense to the story. That's one of the reason I love this anime to much. That I would choose to watch it three times.

The other thing I love about this anime is that the art is so adorable!! It have amazing art; and the way the artist draws the characters are amazing. They make it so... cool? just really don't know. It's just amazing; I love it.

And the characters are pretty interesting, too. The main character is gentle yet outgoing and fun. Guren is funny, cute, yet very cool when he is in his original form. The grandpa is just hilarious at times. Sometimes a bit strict, but he is an awesome character. The princess is very cute... I really wished at the time I watched this, that the princess would choose to be with the main character.

All in all, this is a cute and interesting anime! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested in youkai, mononokes, traditional periods (Edo period/era, etc.) and supernatural beings! It is an awesome anime :3

It may look like a typical shounen fare series, but it is so AWESOME!! The characters are well fleshed out, the storyline is great, the art is fantastic, the music is beautiful, the themes are great, and Masahiro is just TOO DARNED CUTE!! Plus he's especially hilarious when he's angry! LOL! It's a great series and I've been in love with it for soooo long! It's so under appreciated and I think it deserves a second season! I highly recommend it for those who like bishounen, magic, and a good historical storyline!
