Sougo Okita

Okita is the best swordsman in the Shinsengumi. Personality-wise, he tends to be light-hearted and somewhat childish, not entirely unlike Kagura, though his speech is heavily deadpan. During a conversation between Kondo and Hijikata, Kondo asking Hijikata to stop Okita before he became Sadist , Hijikata responded: "No, its too late. He's the King from the Planet of Sadists".

Okita outwardly displays annoyance and dislike for Hijikata, and continuously tries to kill (or at least badly wound) Hijikata whenever he has the chance so that he can become the Vice-Commander. He trained under Kondo in the same dojo as Hijikata, and was actually a member of the dojo before Hijikata. In a episode flashback, Hijikata is seen addressing him as sempai. His dislike for Hijikata stems from a deep-seated jealousy. Losing his parents at a young age, he was raised by his sister, Mitsuba. Thus, although he is sadistic and violent towards other people, Okita absolutely adores his sister and does everything he can to please her. Mitsuba is one of the reasons why Okita hates Hijikata. Okita viewed Hijikata as a rival for his sister's attention. He also greatly dislikes the fact that Hijikata treated Mitsuba coldly, although Mitsuba clearly showed signs of liking Hijikata.

Okita has great affection and fondness for Kondo, who took Okita under his wings when he was little. Kondo was the first person to befriend Okita when everyone else shunned him. Albeit he does not hesitate to slash, stab, and shoot at Hijikata, he does not let anyone harm Kondo and would always take retribution from those who hurt him. Kondo is another reason why Okita hates Hijikata. He resents Hijikata for taking Kondo's attention away from him. Nonetheless, it is revealed that Okita still regards Hijikata as one of his three friends (the other two being Kondo and Gintoki)[2].

Okita seems to have a respect for Gintoki. The two get along well due to their mutual love for mocking, torturing and humiliating Hijikata. After witnessing the fight between Gintoki and Hijikata, Okita said he would love to clash swords with him one day. He doesn't seem to have a problem with taking a lecture or a knock on the head from Gintoki. When his sister came to visit, Okita bribed Gintoki (with a chocolate parfait) into pretending to be his best friend. Later when Okita left, Gintoki acknowledges the friendship to Mitsuba. He regards Kagura as a rival after an unfinished rock-paper-scissors duel during a sakura-blossom party, and whenever the two cross paths, sparks fly. Kagura is under the impression that he likes her, uttering at one point, 'oh, he definitely likes me', but as this hasn't been alluded to since, it is unknown if it should be considered canon. He has stated that he'll "be the only one to defeat her", and usually calls her by the nickname "China." He enjoys seeing women fight, finding the ugly looks on their faces as they grab each other being hilarious. He wears a distinctive eye mask when taking a nap during duty, which is a frequent occurrence. At one point, he refers to himself as the best sniper in the Shinsengumi. Although he is a master of kenjutsu, he uses a bazooka more often.
