The story line from the beginning is very slow to start but what will keep you watching it the clean animation. Of course, one of my favorite things about this anime, are the openers and closers. Very fun and interesting songs to sing along with. Now as for the characters, oh the characters. Blackstar, yup you knew it was coming, this is by far on of the most annoying characters I have ever watched, YAHOO! his partner Tsubaki was alright, but I would have loved to know more about her. Death the Kid was actually my most favorite because he had a personality. His need for symmetry was something I could relate most to and I found him very funny with his rants when things were not in order. His partners, the thompson sisters I would have liked to know more about as well. As for Maka and Soul, Where is Soul from? Why does he play the piano so well? What did he do before? And Maka, where is your mother, and why does death speak so fondly of her? What happened to her? oh they never said. I would have just loved to know, a little more about the characters beginnings. And boy I'm not even going to get started on the Excalibur filler episodes. Skip them, I recommend it, you won't miss any part of the story, I promise. Over, I did like the series, there were just some thing lacking that I would have liked to see represented by the beautiful animation. Thanks again Bones, but I know you know how to fill a character with emotion that can carry onto any viewer.

ever since i first watched the anime, i was in,ove.
i soon found myself looking at seemingly endless videos on youtube.
the plot and storyline are unique.
the chraracters have personalities i think you can only find in a mang/anime such as this.
even though youd only think of it as a action manga, its deeper then that.it delves into the struggles of self confidence.
although the battle scenes aren't bad either.

if my review seems intimidating, just read the one by MakaS0ul two reviews down. she says pretty much everything I tried to say in mine, except 10 times better with less words.

INITIAL REACTION
okay. when I first saw the promo pics I thought this anime was going to be original and unlike anything else. the drawing style looked unique and the plot exciting. I thought it was going to be gory horrific depressing serious and cynical (almost like the When They Cry franchise). then I watched episode 1 and it all became clear. it wasn't any of those things. It has all the typical humor specific to Japanese anime. over exaggerated responses, girls beating up guys, monotone character foibles, unreliable (non-existent) parents, super talented kids, ridiculous fan service, bleeding noses,

need I go on? if Naruto, Bleach, Elemental Gelade, xxxHolic, and Vampire Rosario had a baby, you'd get Soul Eater. I guess that makes it an original mix?

STORYLINE
the storyline is very Bleach-ish making it an instant winner. bunch of shinigami I mean meistros at an academy get paired with their zanpakto I mean partners to kill Hollows I mean afreets which are humans that sought power in fear of death and consumed other souls, making them freaks and dangerous and not human anymore. the weapons have human forms and consume afreets to become stronger. the goal is to consume 99 + 1 witch's soul to become a "death scythe" = uber powerful weapon that will now belong to "Lord Death". say bye bye to all your hard work "meistros"

there is a lot of drama of this show. but sadness barely lingers because there is tons of comic relief that balances it out - that's the part that caught me off guard. when the slap stick reared its head, I knew this was going to be another typical anime. I'm actually glad now it didn't go down the path of super dark and depressing (which it easily could have). I don't think my soul could take it.

what is keeping this anime fresh is the re-interpretation of everything Halloween from zombies to witches to Frankenstein, which leads me to the characters. there is also an original underlying principle in the show which is repeated at the beginning of every episode.

CHARACTERS
all of the characters hold their own and have great chemistry. however, there are 2 in particular that will become the subjects of tons of blingees, fan art, comics, quote reels, and avatar pics. once you watch the show, you'll know which two I'm talking about.
** Spoiler Alert!!! click to hide or show**

I must say though the first 2 episodes were frustrating introductions of the characters. One character garnered my hate from first glance and it took me 15 episodes to stop hating him. just giving you a heads up.

also, one thing this show is doing differently than others is that it is keeping all the minor characters in the loop, which always leaves the plot open to new characters. it's not like where the main characters exist in their own little world all the time so the producer always pulls cheap plot tricks out of his hat so no one dies. this anime is creating a whole world like Naruto, Bleach, Inuyasha, Gintama, and all the other greatest anime of all time. I haven't finished the series yet, but I'm expecting some people to die in the final climatic battle.
another great character is the ultimate bad guy. every series has one. he's the voldemort to this show.

MUSIC
this anime has great OPs and EDs. really catchy. I haven't heard 1 yet that I don't like. also the background music really helps set the mood in scenes.

ANIMATION
this anime has the look of a Japanese cartoon with some American flair. things are drawn and colored rather blocky. it doesn't have a sketchy or stringy feel. it's refreshing to look at. and the action is animated well.

OVERALL
this anime is worth watching for 4 reasons
1) the creative/innovative/original use of Halloween/Mythological themes
2) Death the Kid
3) the ultimate bad guy that needs to be defeated
4) the refreshing drawing style

I am looking forward to seeing this through to the end. check it out. you won't regret it!

But, it was pretty awesome overall. It had the perfect amount of comedy, action, but lacking in drama XD So... i think you should wach it, or ill TAKE YOUR SOUL!!!!!!!!!

I had watched an amv that had made this show look incredibly creepy. At first, I was hesitent to watch it, however, I decided to at least watch the first episode. I'm very glad I did! It became my favorite anime.
My impression of the first episode was that the anime was a gory and violent one. After the evil monster was destroyed however, the atmosphere quickly changed. The tone became more lighthearted and the humor surfaced. The only reason I kept watching when Maka Albarn and Soul, her weapon/human partner (two of the main characters) was fighting was due to the character design and animation. I had noticed the animation, which got me interested in seeing more. The characters looked crisp and clean and the lines were well defined. I could easily tell what was going on, which impressed me. On a side note, there are meisters, or people who wield weapons, and people who transform into weapons.
The next two episodes were dedicated to introducing the other two main characters and their weapons. Episode two was dedicated to Black*Star and his weapon partner Tsubaki. We learn that Black*Star is trying to assasinate an evil human. He fails miserably because of his large ego. Episode three was dedicated to Death the Kid and his twin guns, Liz and Patty. We learn that Kid has an obbsession with symmetry. Several episodes in the series are dedicated to developing the main characters, including the villains.
The series had a decent soundtrack going for it. The music fit well with the scenes and the mood that the characters were setting. Dark themes to fit the tougher moments and cool jazzy themes for the better moments. I felt that the music made a lot of the scenes.
The storyline was excellent. I must warn, however, that the anime plot changes course from the manga. I suggest reading the manga and watching the anime together. You will see the difference. In the storyline, the characters developed nicely, and made me feel for each character, even the annoying Black*Star. I watched them grow in their personality and their strength, working to overcome the challenges of their lives.
Overall, I would give this anime a five out of five. It kept me entertained and laughing through most of it. The humor kept it from being a dark and depressing anime. My favorite episode was episode 20. It kept me laughing the entire time and I thouroughly enjoyed it all! I would definitely reccomend this anime!

Soul Eater is a wonderful anime and has a great and intriguing story line. The characters are well thought out and are made to come into play nicely. The partnership of Maka Albarn and Soul "Eater" Evans is very strong and that gives a strong image to the viewer. The other partnerships such as Black*Star and Tsubaki, Death the Kid with Patti and Liz and the many others, also give a strong impression on this anime. Facing as many dangers as they do, their bonds become stronger and less penetrable. Lord Death is a comical relief for this anime and is a wonderful character to contrast the seriousness of the fighting and battles with the partnerships and the Death Weapon Miester Academy face during the whole anime.

I just recently finished watching Soul Eater, and the anime was AMAZING! I couldn't stop watching it. It first was about making the weapon (Soul) a Death Sythe but jumped to defeating a Kishin. Other than that, its amazing. And great for people who love comedy & action .

Soul Eater anime review

-Soul Eater was one of the first anime I've ever watched. The first half of it was very good, but when it was getting near the end it branched of from the manga, it got a little bit off track, because their main goal was to capture 99 evil human souls and 1 witch soul, but then everybody forgot about that and skipped to defeating the kishin. I feel like they ran out of ideas for the ending and just went with the obvious, all the good characters kind of looked bad at the end, i don't know, i just didn't like it at all. But minus the ending this anime rocked, the fillers were good, the jokes were funny, the characters were great (minus Maka), and the voice actors were amazing. This is definitely a must-watch.

-The manga is better, even though it's ongoing, i feel like the ending will definitely be better.

Soul Eater is very entertaining and at the same time scary, the main characters are Soul, Maka, Black Star,Death the Kid. Soul, Black Star and Death the kid are the funniest characters and Spirit is too, which is Maka's Father but Maka doesnt like her father because he cheated on her mom which his is ex-wife. I think soul eater is for people who like Dragon Ball Z, Naruto and Bleach.
