The Flowers - one of most famous boy bands in China - was founded in Beijing in 1998 by four school friends.
It rapidly bloomed from then with two albums, particularly the anthem song 'Xi Shuashua', which won numerous prizes in China.
However in early 2006, The Flowers partially admitted to one of 12 plagiarism charges over their two albums, specifically 'Xi Shua Shua', which contains a section from Japanese female duo Puffy AmiYumi's 2003 hit, 'K2G Rushing to You'.
Flower lyricist Da Zhang Wei admitted to the press that he and his band mates have so many tunes - from having to listen up to 100 songs per day - stored in their heads that they "have no time to identify, revise and remove" ones which aren't theirs.
This scandal puts their future in question, especially leader Da Zhang Wei's, due to the fact that all Flowers songs are credited to him in their CD booklets.
To avoid disputes and authentication troubles, the band will not attend any music award ceremonies during 2006 and onwards, or at least until these issues are resolved (according to Huang Weiqing, general manager of EMI Music in Beijing).
