This anime sets the standard for high school romance animes.

Tatsuya, while being the sterotypical lazy and naturally good at athletics, character, has volumes of depth. He shows a huge amount of jealousy, angry, rage while at the same time being caring, understanding, He is one of the most well made characters of all time.

Kazuya is the go getter. He works his butt off for everything he does. While people around him call him a genius, he works his ass off for every bit of talent and brains that he has. Maybe because he isn't the main character he lacks alot of the depth of tatsuya while still being an attractive character.

Minami is a hard working go getter much like Kazuya, and she is the most interesting character of all three. To explain why, I feel I would have to ruin parts of the story, which I am trying to avoid.

Oh yea on a side note Kazuya plays baseball. Tatsuya also plays baseball about 30 episodes in to the anime. Minami does gymnastics about 30 episodes into the anime too. These recreational activities play a main role in moving the story along.
Those are the three most influental characters of the anime.

These are some characters to be aware of and are all awesome in their own way.

Akio Nitta is the best hitter on one of the best high school teams in Japan. He is kinda like the bad guy in the story, if there were any bad guys. Lets just say he plays on an opposing team. He also tries to get Minami for himself, but not in any creepy way or anything like that.

Harada is the school tough guy. But he also is like a wise man that gives tatsuya advice. While also being a funny guy that gets tatsuya into trouble too.

Yuka Nitta likes Tatsuya. She is the closest thing to a sterotypical character in the story. She likes Tatsuya and Tatsuya ignores her, which makes her like Tatsuya even more. She gets more and more eccentric in expressing her love as the anime moves along and is very amusing.

The storyline is chacacter drivin. Crunchryoll has a good description of the storyline without revealing anything that serious. To describe how the storyline goes and why it is good would ruin the anime for many so I will refrain from doing so. I will just say this, It is the most unique Love triangle/square/pentagon storyline ever. Also, while usually it is a no brainer that the main character wins, in this anime, not so much.

For those that wonder why I gave it a 4 and not a 5 star rating. You have to remember this anime is older then I am. Needless to say the animation and music was reflective of that time. Excluding that, It was a most enjoyable watch and I suggest everyone who loves a good romance/sports anime to watch it. Also it is about 100 episodes and can be a little slow at times.
