Exchange love -- bartering at its finest

Overall, this is a very good show. I often watched more than one episode a day. Despite the formulaic plotline, there were still unexpected twists and believable scenarios. I liked the way the friendships developed. But I'm not too sure what to say about this show's romantic development. I honestly only thought like two of the kisses between Mike and Rainie were romantic, which is weird because they usually have such good chemistry.

But none of it was bad. In the end, their relationship was really warm and sweet.
And I could really relate to the characters. I laughed, I cried, I smiled in and out at the really touching moments.

Give this show a go if you like Kingone, Mike or Rainie. It's also great for escaping reality and simultaneously realizing how good you have it compared to "Taiwan Ah Xin" (Rainie's long-suffering character). I'm gonna go out and live a little now.

Why Why Love ~ Taiwanese Tv Series (2007)

Huo Da and Huo Yan are brothers from different mothers. Huo Da is the younger, legitimate son and Huo Yan is the illegimate son who was the result of an affair. Their father is a rich businessman who depends on the mature, accomplished Huo Yan to run much of his business. Huo Yan, the ever-dutiful son, tries to convince Huo Da to complete his university degree and to stop risking his life in motorcycle competitions. Tensions run high among the two, since the rebellious Huo Da hates his older brother for being the product of an affair that ruined his parents' marriage. They are also stuck in a love triangle, with Huo Da pining after Yan Shu, who in turn is in love with Huo Yan. Can things get worse?

Kind of. Enter Tong Jia Di, a poor, scrimping girl who first encounters the brothers at a company event (the company is owned by the Huo family). There, she catches the attention of both, and she falls for Huo Yan. The relationship between the three unfolds as she carries out two different "exchange coupons" for them. She is forced to work as Huo Da's slave for a week, while the gentlemanly Huo Yan graciously tells Jia Di that they don't have to carry out their 'love exchange' coupon, much to Jia Di's disappointment.

Sticking with the formulaic nature of Taiwanese drama, Jia Di and Huo Da begin to grow feelings for one another, as Huo Da gets over Yan Shu and Huo Yan begins to fall for Jia Di's simple, no-drama personality. When Jia Di and Huo Da begin to officially date, Huo Yan bows out gracefully. All is randy dandy until the series takes the road to hell by giving Huo Da a terminal illness and making him break Jia Di's heart by (duh) not telling her about his disease and instead lying that he never stopped loving Yan Shu. Huo Yan figures this huge mess out, and offers to donate a liver to his ailing brother. The brothers forget the past, both emerge from the organ transplant alive and well, Jia Di and Huo Da get back together, and Yan Shu leaves overseas. Hurrah.

Evaluation of Cast and Characters

Judy Qiu
A log of wood can act better than her. Worst performance I've seen in years. To be fair, this girl was born and raised in Japan, and Japanese is her main language. How well can one act if you need an interpreter on set 24/7? So I give her the benefit of the doubt and feel bad that her performance is bad simply because of the language barrier.

Wait a second. Julian Cheung and Yoko Fuoko (in TVB's Return of the Cuckoo and Korea's Wuri's Family, respectively) were fantastic in their roles, and they weren't even allowed to utter a single word. So scratch that. Judy is just a bad actress, period. And what the hell is up with her hair?! She'd look better bald.

Rainie Yang
I hate her hair in here, and her performance does not even approach her heartfelt one in DBY. Her cartoonish antics are not that funny in here, though she fares much better in the dramatic scenes and her chemistry with Mike He is nothing short of brilliant. Too bad the two aren't dating in real life. Rainie also sings the teenybopper ballads pretty well.

Mike He
He fares much better in this series than his inconsistent turn as Ah Meng in DBY, and his hair looks much better. He also shows some comic potential in here, which is great. I still don't think he's as hot as every other girl proclaims him to be, although the kissing scenes with Rainie are great (TVB actors should study them). He's got great chemistry with Kingone Wang, and also has excellent chemistry with the little girl who plays Jia Di's cousin.

Kingone Wang
He looks a lot better in this series, and does a decent job as the loser-in-love, but this guy is missing what I like to call the "it" factor - that star/X quality that makes you stop and take a second glance.

Ge Wei Ru
A commendable performance for a character that is a 180 degree turn from the silly mother she portrayed in DBY. The mother-daughter chemistry she shares with Rainie is very good as well.

Typical story of two guys and one girl with the normal conflicts and love interests. But this story progresses into a very heartwarming story of love and devotion. Just when things work out how you know they are going to, the story takes a turn. It starts as a light-hearted cute movie, and progresses into a touchingly deep storyline. I would recommend this to anyone who loves to laugh and cry through their romance dramas.
