Overview
In the beginning of the manga, Yusuke Urameshi is nothing more than a street-brawling delinquent who only goes to school about once every ten days. His teachers hate him and he has few friends. Yusuke's mother Atsuko is an alcoholic. She had him at the age of 14 and shows little interest in raising her son. He has a reserved seat in the guidance counseler's office. Since every single punk in the city is trying to take him on, Yusuke is pretty fed up with life.
However, no one could foresee his most famous deed: he dies trying to save a little boy from a speeding car. When he arrives in the afterlife, the people in the afterlife inform him that since no one was expecting him to die in that way, they are not prepared for his arrival.

Yusuke Urameshi, 14 years old, is basically what you would call a dimwitted delinquent. Skipping school, getting involved in gang fights, and a whole bunch of other things; he's basically a round-about bad boy. All of this changes one day when he just happens to save a young boy from being ran over by a speeding car. The Spirit World, appalled and surprised by this action never expected this to happen; therefore Yusuke was not able to be sentenced properly. In order to avoid arousing suspicion, Koenma (Prince of the Spirit World) gives Yusuke another chance to redeem himself and get himself his body back.
