Hanazakarino Kimitachihe (simplified Chinese: 花样少年少女; traditional Chinese: 花樣少年少女; pinyin:
Huāyàng shǎonián shǎonǚ), also known as
Hua Yang Shao Nian Shao Nu, is a Taiwanese drama produced by and first aired on CTS and GTV. The show was later re-broadcast on Singapore's Channel U as well as Hong Kong's TVB network. It is being broadcast in the Philippines through ABS-CBN which initially aired in March, 2008.
Hua Yang Shao Nian Shao Nu is the second Taiwanese drama to be based on Hisaya Nakajo's manga, Hana-Kimi. The drama features Wu Chun and Jiro Wang of Fahrenheit, and Ella Chen of S.H.E. The soundtrack was released on December 1, 2006.
Although the original manga's title means "For You In Full Blossom," the drama's title means "The Tricks of Boys and Girls," referring to student life within the drama. The official English name is actually an alternate romanization of the original manga's title. When VIZ media translated the manga from Japanese to English, "Kimitachi e" became "Kimitachihe." Evidently, the latter name was used. The show was filmed at National Chi Nan University in Puli, Nantou County. The Chinese title is also the name used in the Chinese translation of the Hana-Kimi manga by Tong Li Publishing.
The manga this drama was based on has also been remade into a Japanese series, starring Shun Oguri (starring as Izumi Sano), Maki Horikita (starring as Mizuki Ashiya) and Toma Ikuta (starring as Shuichi Nakatsu)
Back in America, Lu Rui Xi (Ella Chen) watches a documentary on the Taiwanese high jumper Zuo Yi Quan (Wu Chun). Inspired by his jumps, Rui Xi decides that she wants to meet her idol and therefore transfers to Ying Kai University which he attends in Taiwan. However, the school is an all-boys school and thus Rui Xi disguises herself as a boy in order to attend the school. There she befriends Jin Xiu Yi (Jiro Wang). During a friendly soccer match between the two, Rui Xi gets knocks unconscious and so Quan aids by taking her to the school's doctor. But as he grabs her to carry her to the sick bay, he discovers that she is in fact a girl. He keeps her identity a secret from everyone, including Rui Xi and their relationship begins to blossom. Meanwhile, Rui Xi's manliness cannot pass Xui Yi's girl radar and so Xiu Yi begins to develop feelings for Rui Xi. However, since Xiu Yi is unaware that Rui Xi is a girl, he begins to question his own sexuality. He even announced to the whole school that he is, in fact, gay. Many events passed, including their interesting summer break working at a vacation house since Dorm 2 needed some construction done. In the end, Rui Xi was talking to herself inside hers and Quan's room thinking about the past two years she spent with Quan, Xiu Yi and the others. Eventually, she thought about leaving Ying Kai secretly, but unbeknown to Rui Xi, Quan was quietly listening to every word she was saying. Thus, Quan gathers up their group to stop Rui Xi from leaving reasoning that Rui Xi has go back to America to have a double eyelid surgery.
This drama has a full cast of characters, based on the Japanese manga. Major Characters appear in more than one story arc, and Minor Characters are those who serve a very limited purpose. Most characters in the series have names which are close approximations of the Chinese transliterations of the names found in the original manga.
