Lucky Star, to put it simply, is about the life of four highschool girls. The one that is mainly focused on is Konata Izumi, a short, blue-haired otaku that thinks of almost nothing but anime, manga, and video games. Due to that, her grades are lacking, however, she is a master at cramming the night before a test. That is a star contrast compared to her friend Kagami Hiiragi. Kagami is what can be characterized as a tsundere type. She is hardworking and always rides Konata about her studies. Her twin sister, Tsukasa Hiiragi, is an airhead type who is an excellent cook. Tsukasa isn't a great student but she still tries to do her best. Miyuki Takara on the other hand, is an excellent student who is a rich girl, but despite that, is very kind and gentle. She is described by Konata as moe.
As the anime is in the slice-of-life genre, there is not much action. The anime has a very slow-paced and relaxed feel. If you are looking for action, you best look for something else. Many people who watch it, are turned away by the first episode, as most of the disscussion is about food and how you eat it. If you can watch past the first episode, you will be rewarded, as the humor and the pace pick up slightly. As the series goes on, the humor gets better and is more frequent.
The music is kinda quirky, and easily fits the mood and feel of the scene. You will often hear the same short bits of music used in other scenes.
The characters are all very interesting, and fun to watch interact with each other. While some characters may fit certain stereotypes, they are enjoyable nonetheless. There are also lots of references to other anime shows out there, namely The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I suggest watching that series before this one, as the references will be funnier and easier to understand. If you are an otaku, you should get most of the references. Overall, this is an excellent series to watch, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
