The Flag is the beacon from which a company of Space Marines could land strategically and safely. Without those flags and beacons whole companies may get killed. They lost prolly 10 marines to save 100.

Well see the sergeant put the flag up because he couldnt defeat the rest of those orcs, one thing is the strategic point and the other thing is the space marine's pride and will for their emperor
