New Pants was formed in 1996 under the name 金属车间的形体师傅 and later signed its contract with Modern Sky Records in 1997 with which they renamed the band to New Pants. Their first CD named New Pants is released on Modern Sky Records in 1998. The magazines Audio and Video World (音像世界) and Pop Song (通俗歌曲) vote New Pants' first CD into their 1998 and 1999 Top Ten Hits. In 1999, New Pants first CD is officially distributed in Hongkong and receives very positive media attention. In January 2000, New Pants finish the recording of their second CD, after which they release two music videos and finally their second album Disco Girl is released simultaneously in whole Asia. In August 2001, New Pants start their Guangdong University Tour. In December 2002, New Pants third CD We are automatic is released. Next to 4 other Chinese bands, New Pants were filmed for the documentary film Beijing Bubbles in 2005.
