Pure Essence, the story mode tactics type is taken from another game.It isn't new, it's only that they changed it alot.

Yes in a way this game is like tactics, but that's only while moving around the board, once you get into a battle it takes on more of a Advanced Kingdom Hearts style of gameplay (made by the same people who did Kingdom Hearts) Unique though
