I had forgotten how new to military anime the creators and writers must have been. This is the series that started it all, back when they were still figuring out what Gundam was meant to be. It still makes me nostalgic.

That's because you've been spoiled by all the series that came after this one. Remember, this show was made back in the early eighties when we were still dependent on military tech from the sixties and seventies. It's actually quite good.

man this series has been quite meh thus far.. the characters are bland, annoying and trite.. the realisim is non existant.. I'd always heard such good things about it and I'm quite underwhelmed and disapointed so far

Amuro's actually pretty resilient (humble, too). Let's see, he watched tons of people he knew die, got smacked over the head with military duty and protecting lives, plus he's just a kid. I'd like to see how you'd do in his shoes.

Seems to me they brought the guns out a bit early. Any real commander would have just told them to stay under house arrest till they figured out what to do with em, and then they'd have to do what he said.
