Nickelodeon's rapid wrap of Legend of Korra: Book 2 got a bit faster today. Episodes “Night of A Thousand Stars” and “Harmonic Convergence” were scheduled to air tonight at 8/7c on Nick. The network then promised fans that they'd offer the final two episodes online if they reblogged a message from voice actress Janet Varney 10,000 times. And the goal was quickly achieved. After a brief hiatus, Legend of Korra is back this week at another new time. Co-creator Bryan Konietzko notes that the plans are to finish Book 2 of the series this month with Nickelodeon running one episode this week and next, then burning off the final four in hours blocks Novembers 15th and 22nd. The latest scheduling quirk to be aware of is that on, Friday, October 18th, Nickelodeon will be airing's The Legend of Korra's “Beginnings Part 1 and Part 2″ 8 p.m. After that, the show is on hiatus until November 1. TV rating for Legend of Korra started remarkably weak, and just got more concerning since then. Korra’s second book premiered on Friday, September 13 at 7:00pm to an average of 2.6 million total viewers for the hour-long opener. The second week dipped to 2.2 million viewers and the third move up slightly to 2.4 million viewers. Then came week four, in which the bottom fell out. More after the jump.
The wait is over. The Legend of Korra book 2 debuts Friday, September 13 at 7 p.m. on Nickelodeon. Set six months after the first Korra series, books 2 partially take place at the South Pole, but along with exploring the Southern Water Tribe, the focus is mainly on the mystical "Spirit World" and the history of the Avatar lineage and mythology. Later even than some of the voice actor were expecting, The Legend of Korra - Book 2: Spirits is now slated to kick off on Nickelodeon·this September. Beyond a new trailer for San Diego Comic Con, it was also announced that The Walking Dead's Steven Yeun joins the cast as Wan, the first Avatar, who story from 10,000 years in the past features into two episodes. A key rationale for last weekend's Free Comic Day is to get potential comics/manga readers, particularly younger ones, to visit their local comic shops. As such, most publishers take their time offering digital versions. Award-winning comic writer Gene Luen Yang is back with Avatar co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko and Gurihiru on Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Search, a comic debuting today which promises to answer questions as to what happened to Fire Lord Zuko’s mother. Dark Horse has made a pair of announcements concerning their Avatar: The Last Airbender books. First, you can now get their library of releases following the adventures of Aang and his crew digitally, to be read on web browsers and through their iOS/Android app. On the print side of thing, a The Legend of Korra: art book will be available for purchase on July 24. The International Animated Film Society has announced their nominations for the 40th Annual Annie Awards, recognizing the year’s best in the field of animation. Hayao Miyazaki, Keiko Niwa and Karey Kirkpatric got a Best Writing in an Animated Feature Production nod for their work on Studio Ghibli's From Up on Poppy Hill, while The Legend of Korra picked up two nominations.
