Takashi Miike, the prolific and shocking director whose reputation exploded internationally with the adaptation of manga Ichi the Killer, also attached to adaptations of manga Salaryman Kintaro, MPD Psycho, Crows Zero, Mogura no Uta, Kami-sama no Iu Toori,and recent Tachibana and Yū Sasuga's violent sci-fi TerraFormars, now has another big manga project on his slate: Hiroaki Samura's Blade of the Immortal.
Dark Horse Comics officially has the conclusion of one of the North America's longest-running manga series solicited with Blade of the Immortal Volume 31: Final Curtain officially planned for April 14. Beyond that, Amazon has the penultimate, 36th volume of Gantz listed for August, and the end of Oh My Goddess! coming with volume 48 in October. More after the jump.
Shukakusai is a harvest festival something like Thanksgiving, and Kodansha's seinen anthologies mark the occasion with their Dai Shukakusai campaign. This year, they took the opportunity to promote the anime adaptation of Ryu Mizunagi's Witchcraft Works, and offer a video of the artist working on an Afternoon cover illustration, along with Sugigaku sketching new Evening series Kaa-chan to Issho and a talk from Blade of the Immortal author Hiroaki Samura. In additional to finally wrapping up Blade of the Immortal in volume 30, author Hiroaki Samura's has produced some one shots, the two volume, surreal Halcyon Lunch and the violent, women's revenge series Beageruta–. The 2011 manga is running in the quarterly magazine Nemesis, so a collection has been a long time coming. Well, timed to coincide BOI volume 30, volume 1 of Beageruta– was released this weekend. In 2001, Blade of the Immortal author Hiroaki Samura told Quick Japan, "Originally I said, 'I'll end it at 5 volumes.' Now that I've already done 12 I don't really know, but it's true that I want to finish it within the next 3 years."
