Dark Horse Comics officially has the conclusion of one of the North America's longest-running manga series solicited with Blade of the Immortal Volume 31: Final Curtain officially planned for April 14. Beyond that, Amazon has the penultimate, 36th volume of Gantz listed for August, and the end of Oh My Goddess! coming with volume 48 in October. More after the jump.
Viz has announced that they will begin offering their manga on the digital, cloud based comiXology platform using its right-to-left "Manga Fixed Format." The publisher's manga is also offered on their own platform, Nook, iBookstore, Kindle and Google Play. Meanwhile Dark Horse has begun offering CLAMP titles on their digital platform starting with Clover and Card Captor Sakura. More after the jump.
North America publisher Dark Horse has announced their plans for July comics and September books. With CLAMP's Drug & Drop coming from the publisher in 2015, an omnibus of its predecessor Legal Drug is scheduled for September. Hiroki Endo's violent sci-fi manga Eden: It's an Endless World ended its Japanese run 2008. It's critically acclaimed. It made the New York Time's best seller list. Comic publisher Dark Horse is laying out plans for a diverse range of video game adaptations at this weekend's New York Comic Con. Following the recent Anime Expo announcement that they plan to bring the New Lone Wolf and Cub manga to North America, Dark Horse has detailed their schedule for hosting legendary author Kazuo Koike at San Diego Comic Con. Koike will be signing at the Dark Horse booth, #2615, Thursday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., as well as Friday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. More after the jump.
Sometimes Dark Horse might deserve some of the grief it gets for the long wait between volumes of manga, and sometimes its working with a monthly series that doesn't exactly stick to its schedule. A key rationale for last weekend's Free Comic Day is to get potential comics/manga readers, particularly younger ones, to visit their local comic shops. As such, most publishers take their time offering digital versions. Toren Smith, one of the looming figures in the story of localizing manga and anime for English speakers, passed away on March 4th at age 52. Smith helped bring classics like Hayao Miyazaki's Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Masamune Shirow's Ghost in the Shell and Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira to North America, as well as set the stage for the manga boom of the 00s.
