    Prestigious North America comics awards announced at Comic-Con

    The North American comic industry has presented the winner of its prestigious Eisner Awards during a gala ceremony on Friday, July 10 at Comic-Con International: San Diego. The prize of the manga-dominated (and this year manga-exclusive) Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Asia category went to Drawn & Quarterly's release of Showa 1939–1943 and Showa 1944–1953: A History of Japan, by Shigeru Mizuki.

    The North American comics industry has announced the nominees for its prestigious Eisner Awards, which will be presented at during a gala ceremony on Friday, July 10 during Comic-Con International: San Diego. Beyond the manga-dominated (and this year manga-exclusive) Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Asia category, Massive: Gay Erotic Manga and the Men Who Make It, edited by Anne Ishii, Chip Kidd, & Graham Kolbeins from Fantagraphics was nominated for Best Anthology.

  • Eisner Awards Recognize Osamu Tezuka and Hayao Miyazaki

    Recipients announced at San Diego Comic Con

    Recipients of the North America comic industry's prestigious Eisner Awards were announced last night at San Diego Comic Con. Hayao Miyazaki was inducted into its Hall of Fame along with Alan Moore, Dennis O’Neil and Bernie Wrightson. Rumiko Takahashi was also nominated. The Mysterious Underground Men by Osamu Tezuka, released by PictureBox was recognized with Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Asia. More after the jump.

  • Manga Nominees for American Comic Industry's Prestigious Eisner Awards Announced

    Several books nominated outfit the typically manga dominated "Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Asia" category

    Nominees for the 2014 Eisner Awards have been announced. Outside the typically manga dominated "Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Asia" category. Suehiro Maruo's manga version of Edogawa Rampo's The Strange Tale of Panorama Island got a "Best Adaptation" nod while 47 Ronin, by Mike Richardson and Stan Sakai, with Kazuo Koike consulting was nominated for the Limited Series Award.

    The Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, North American comics' equivalent of the Oscars have announced their 2013 nominees. In addition to four manga works being nominated for Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Asia, the Dark Horse release of Katsuya Terada's The Monkey King vol. 2 was nominated for Best Painter/Multimedia Artist (interior art).     Suspense Manga Picks Up Prestigious North American Comics Honor

    Naoki Urasawa's 20th Century Boys has been honored with this year's award for "Best U.S. Edition of International Material - Asia" in North American comic industry's prestigious Eisner Awards.  The series follows Kenji Endo, who abandoned his rock n' roll dreams to run the family liquor store, which he converted to a franchise convenience store and take care of his sister's abandoned daughter, only to find himself drawn into a mystery in which the games he played as a boy are apparently being used to try to take over the world.  More after the jump.
