Singer/actor/general celebrity GACKT has charged into the new year along side 2015's majestic zodiac anime... the sheep. Media shop TSUTAYA has teamed up with the artist to sell a 2015/2016 calendar celebrating the 15th anniversary of his (1999) solo debut. They then amazed and possibly traumatized fans by giving away a trio of digital calendar wallpapers with epic scenes of GACKT and his furry friend.
Joining a strong voice cast and a star roster of artists like Final Fantasy vets Shingo Kosuge and Yoshitaka Amano, the multi-talented Gackt is headlining Square Enix's new iOS game 3594e – Romance of the Three Kingdoms Hero’s Song. In addition to singing the theme, Gackt voices the role of Han dynasty warlord Lu Bu. Get a look after the jump.
March 1st is high school graduation day all around Japan. It is already a somewhat emotional day for Japanese students, but a surprise celebrity guest to the ceremony pushed the excitement of the day over the top. Possibly united by their shared love of capitalization, GACKT and manga creators CLAMP have teamed up on original live stage project MOON SAGA Yoshitsune Hiden. Teased starting last fall, the production, which presents the visual-kei star as legendary 12th century warrior Minamoto no Yoshitsune, opens in Tokyo this weekend. Norio Wakamoto (Bison, Castlevania's Dracula,Cowboy Bebop's Vicious, Gintama's Matsudaira Katakuriko) was the perfect anime/game voice for notorious warlord Oda Nobunaga, but GACKT seems like he could be just as inspired casting for the live action incarnation. Japanese production company T.O Entertainmenthas posted a new promo for Dragon Age - Dawn of the Seeker, the EA, BioWare, and FUNimation fantasy RPG based project from Vexille director Fumihiko Sori and studio Oxybot. The Japanese version trailer of the martial arts action film BUNRAKU, featuring J-rock star GACKT, was posted on YouTube this week. This movie is GACKT's Hollywood debut as actor. Of course the JP trailer and poster more focus on him than the US counterparts. The movie is slated for release in Japanese theaters on January 14, 2012. Check the differences after the jump.
Bunraku—the Japanese puppet theater inspired Western/Eastern starring GACKT and Josh Hartnett—was nothing if not distinctive. With such an unusual project, you can typically expect an unusual opening credit sequence, and this one didn't fail to deliver.
